Is Platin Grey actually Steel Grey?

Featured Replies

Hi - my first post so do please forgive any errors.

The time has at last come for me to place my order. I'm replacing my company car in March and the leasing company have asked for an early order for the Yeti in view of long build dates (wise people!).

Petrol 1.4 SE with heated windscreen and ESP as options, so reading previous posts I'm hoping this choice wont be subject to huge delays. But comparing the brochure and the configurator on the Skoda website brings up one issue. I like the look of Steel Grey on Yetis I have seen out and about, and the latest brochure still has that colour. But the dreaded configurator only has Platin Grey. Apologies if this has been covered before, but which is right, and are they actually the same colour anyway.....?

Thanks for any words of wisdom!

No, I think the Platin grey is darker. Steel grey is a nice choice. ( well I liked it anyway! )

Platin and Steel grey are one and the same colour yes. Platin is the European name for it.

...Petrol 1.4 SE with heated windscreen and ESP as options, ...

What I'd spec too, although the light assistant appears to be a favorite to raise the interior rear view mirror. And maybe the Xenons given some headlight comments. Annoying that ESP isn't included in the spec, or that the old ParkAssist option isn't on SE (where that gave ESP "for free" if I recall).

Britons are not Europeans? ;)

There could be a crossover table for British and European mainland colours.

Our European Malachite Green seems to be British Regency Green.

Absolutely correct. Europe is a continent which is about to spread to include Turkey

Britain is a a set of islands to the west. It's a bit like Finland not being a part of the old USSR.

Thanks everyone - much appreciated. Steel grey it is!

Re the ESP, I will admit it's disappointing not to have this included as standard. I was lucky enough to go on a driving day with Bentley a few years ago on an airfield. They let us drive around obstacles at 30mph with ESP on and then ESP off. Let's just say I wouldnt be comfortable letting my wife drive the kids around in a car without it...........

I did toy with the 1.8T but the company car tax ruled it out as the emissions whilst not horrendous were still significantly higher.

And whilst not a fan of darkened privacy glass, it was too much hassle and cost to order the S then spec it up with SE alloys, leather steering wheel etc. And reading other posts, the lack of stereo speakers in the rear didnt appeal much either. Any thoughts?

But either way, I must say - what a great forum. So much of use, and everyone seems friendly and helpful.

Apologies to the OP for incorrect info. I didn't have the paint codes, only the memory of looking at many pics of the Yeti, whilst waiting for mine to arrive, and all the pics I saw of the Yetis in the platin colour always looked darker, hence my original comment. Paint codes are the key though.

I shall get my coat.........

Well just to throw the cat among the pigeons my UK spec Yeti is designated as Platinum Grey, there was much discussion atthe point of order about steel versus platinum and it was eventually discovered that platinum is the new steel.

Oh and if Britain is not in Europe, then what continent is it in? (or are we incontinent?) :giggle:

PMSL!

If you check a map you'll see we are near Europe, but never nearer than 22miles. The ferry companies and more recently the Chunnel exist because of this.

It explains the difference in language and culture too.

so which continent do we belong to then? :o

and if I check a map then I'm actually closer to Scandinavia :giggle:

Large parts of Europe used to belong to us, At present we are a separate poitical and social entity and I don't believe it to be geographically, socially or in any other way necessary to view the UK as "belonging to" a nearby land mass.

Sorry, OT continues only with this comment:

Liked that as a colonialistical and imperialistic comment. Hello, no Empire anymore.

Then back to the Skoda colours:

When I snooped the net, I found several Regency Green colour tones.

The Skoda Malachite Green is not like that Denby Regency Green (we have those mugs at home):

The Denby Greenwich Green is closer to the Malachite colour which was on the dealer:

And it seems to be close the Dulux Regency Green, too:

To be honest Malachite Green can be anything from the light green to the dark green (almost black).

It is really exiting to wait to see what we get.

?? Geographically every country forms part of a continent surely? I see the political angle you're pursuing but even that seems slightly detached from reality as we are a member of the EU in political terms, and in purely geographic terms we're European rather than North American or Asian or whatever. Oh and as for the linguistic angle, Europe doesn't have a common language so on that basis the French, Dutch, Belgians, Germans, Ppoles, Spaniards, Italians etc could all claim to be non European. :giggle:

But anyway, I have a UK Spec car and it is listed as platinum grey, so in Skoda colour terms we appear to be European

  • 8 years later...

Merci,

M. BOZ

Hi there, are there any French folks on this forum, or people with French-market Skodas?

I have a Yeti for which I'm searching out a paint retouch kit, but the colour code - found in the service manual and on a ticket under the boot floor - is 9157, Not number, letter,  number and letter.

The name of this colour is either Platin grey or Steel grey, but it seems more metallic silver than grey to me Is there no commonality between colour codes everywhere? I don't wish to touch my car up in the colour of a cow!!

Thanks

Mister BOZ

I might have a tube of steel grey, the colour of my last yeti, pm your address and i'll send it to you if I find it

Je pourrais avoir un tube de gris acier, de la couleur de mon dernier yéti, pm votre adresse et je vous l'enverrai si je le trouve
