Is the Yeti as quick as a super car?

Featured Replies

As fast as any 'supercar' standing still!

I kind of agree with everything you said. My 'toy' is an MGB with a 3.5 litre V8 Rover engine. On sunny days, and for trips away for the weekend the Yeti should get left at home ... but somehow - I've done less than 300 miles in the MG this year.

We found that with the Range Rover, Defender and Morris Minor... so they had to go.

Just not using them enough anymore to justify keeping them.

The Yeti is just so satisfying to use! :D

Just got my VRS now for when I want a speed fix.

Might have been me?

But I'm not generally in the habit of chasing them, just maybe giving a little bit of encouragement to "make progress where appropriate" :giggle:

LOL, no idea. IIRC was black just like the porsche.

Yeti + Superbike. Still costs less than most 4x4s and lets you do 0-60 in less than 3 seconds and safe, warm and cosy in winter (and you can't get your knee down in a supercar....)

ya can if it overturns! :giggle:

 Maybe I should tape my knee sliders to the Yeti door handles! B)

+ 1

Well, a 1995 VFR750F actually. Still pretty quick, though...

That reminds me of the "Faster than a Ferrari" 2CV advert way back when (ie when they still made 2CVs). I used to enjoy teasing 911 owners about their "plastic luggage rack" :D

I remember and have always wanted a 2CV.........I get some sort of weird pleasure wringing the neck of a very underpowered car - borrowed a friends Renault 4 years ago with a tiny engine - if you were lucky you could get it to an indicated 65mph! It was all about safe corner speed and not tipping the car over as it leaned so much through the bends emoticon-0140-rofl.gif My previous 1.4 Polo I used to drive flat out up to the speed limits. it was sooooo slow. started life with 59bhp. Probably down to about 45bhp by the time I had it at 11 years old....emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I got as much fun out of my 2CV as any car except Caterhams. Fantastic ride, go anywhere ability, brilliant in snow, great fresh air ventilation and looks apart superb gearshift. Cornered superbly- only looks like will tip over but I never managed to despite trying hard. And slipstreaming coaches on motorway such fun! If you learn to overtake in a 2CV you learn a skill for life ! Another car which was about driving not travelling.Yeti great at latter - the most relaxing car I have ever owned but on the B1257 the adrenalin does not flow too hard ......

Renault 4....

So conclusions so far:

Some people like to thrash their car and stay within the speed limit, extracting as much performance as possible from a tiny engine emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Others like speed aka super-bike or Zonda emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Some like their Yeti emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

All three apply to me, the Yeti is less fast than my run of past cars but is great to chuck around at legal speeds, I have a Triumph Street Triple getting on for 400bhp/ton, and I love my Yeti.

My other car is a Honda Jazz, and no matter how hard you argue that it is more practical, more fuel efficient, more environmentally friendly etc. etc. there is no substitute for the growl of a big engine in a small car

I used to drive a Jazz, too. I remember being overtaken by a Boxster once, growling past with its big engine. Some miles later I overtook it again and watched it vanish in the rear view mirror. Braking too early for a roundabout and driving slowly round the bends loses all the advantage that superior brake horse power gives.

Ermm... maybe because the Boxster driver just wasnt in a hurry and sort of didnt notice the Jazz? Please dont try to outbrake even a modestly driven Caterham - 500kg stops unbelievably quickly compared to the porky cars most of us drive as daily transport.Mind you - if I had a Boxster why would I crawl round bends?

Judging from the impatient way he pushed past me he was in some kind of hurry.

No I wouldn't try to outbrake a Caterham; I'd tend to assume the driver had some degree of competence. But there are many people who can drive fast only in a straight line.

I used to travel daily from London to Brighton. South of Croydon, the Jaguars etc. would blast past and off into the distance (provided the road was dry). In those days the A23 from Pease Pottage to Brighton was unimproved, twisty and a bit dangerous. I would usually find myself sitting next to the same Jaguars etc. at some traffice lights in Brighton.

Only the last two apply to me:

Hard not to go super-legal with the 2.0 TDI 170.

More "Civilized", but still quick BMW K100 16 V.

Still love Snehvide - a lot.
