front speaker reccomendations

Featured Replies

hi, this is for those people that have upgraded their front speakers.

im just curious what make and model speakers you have in the front doors (components please)!!

i am aware they will need to be a slim design so im looking for a set that are a near enough a straight fit and will not require much bodging!!

they have got to sound good though and i dont mind paying a bit extra for that.

cheers guys

I fitted some Pioneer components in my VRS, & they went straight in no prob.

+1 same as me...

Where do you hide the crossovers, is there plenty of room behind the door cards

Pioneers are a must, not to expensive and a very good sound. It was the first thing I did to my Vrs was upgraded the full sound system to pioneer

How much do you want to spend mate?

and are they running off an amp?

I got jl audio c5s front and back, had to convince them a little :smirk: just a small lug needed heating and bending back in, then repainted red :D

sound amazing and the bass response is awesome, that said they are amped up B) and not cheap

Focal also do a shallow mount but again not cheap but bloody good speakers

I have Focal Access 165 A1s - they sound excellent especially with sound deadening on the doors.

I did have to bend a bit of metal on the window guide mount to make them fit.

Another vote for JL audio from me, they aren't cheap but they are pretty damned good speakers

It's not a good idea to put the crossovers inside the doors, it's too damp in there and the vibration from opening and closing the door loosens some of the components from the printed circuit boards over time.

My crossovers are behind the glovebox and under the panel under the steering wheel. Plenty of space to get them in there.

it doesnt really matter how much they are as long as they sound GOOD

they will be amped so they will need to be able to take a bit of power

I have just fitted infinity kappa reference comps in mine. Straight fit with no issues, not running a amp yet but will be fitting it soon.

Yikes. Just saw the price on the JL Audio C5-650 Evolution. Can't believe they charge that much money, and yet the crossovers have cheapass generic wirewound resistors and Mallory capacitors. I'd expect the highest of audiophile components for that sort of coin. :wonder:

I'm hoping my NOS Mission 6.5 components that I've had sat in the box for about 13/14 years will fit in my doors. Cost around £300 back then IIRC. Paid £130 myself, from a mate who bought them and never fitted them (couldn't refuse them at that price but never got a car that would fit them  ). Wonder if I'll end up doing the same. :giggle:

I still miss the old school Infinity 3 way component system I had many years ago with those delicious ribbon tweeters. Looked a bit of a crap install (in my '83 Metro with home made door cards that took up rather a lot of space:rofl: ) but it was the best sounding thing I ever heard in a car.

I Have Alpine SPC 60 R Type components up front amplified with Orion cobalt 600 w two channel amp. Straight in no problems and sound awesome !
