Bolero doesnt work well with SD cards > 4 Gb

Featured Replies

hi there,

i have a fairly new 2010 Yeti with an original Bolero system installed.

got a 16Gb SD CARD for it. Cant get the Bolero to work with it properly.

It stops reading songs and in the middle of different track pops up error message ("Problem with SD card") but the card is fine.

official dealer says Bolero doesn't support well cards > 4 GB (HC cards).

it has other problems as well. it doesnt support well long playlists. and more.

1. is there any firmware updates i can do ?

2. is there anyone else who does support this Bolero thing ??

thanks

There has been one update that I know of.

thanks, but how can i get it ?

my dealer has no idea.

can i download it ?

is there any website they have to support?

Depends if there actually is one. Some Bolero's did indeed get updates, but not all of them. If you want a more detailed answer please submit an Auto-Scan.

Try reading towards the end of this thread.

It's only a dealer update I'm afraid!

What's the make, model and class of the SD card you're using? And where did you purchase it from? That could be the issue.

As I'm using a 16Gb card with no issues at all, and my Bolero has not undergone any dealer update that I'm aware of.

Got my new Superb in August and the manual says the Bolero only works with 2Gb cards.

I've never seen that restriction for the Bolero. The earlier revisions of the Columbus did have this issue, however.

Bolero Manual page 2:

Memory card case: SD memory cards (“Secure Digital Memory Cards”)and MMC-memory cards (“Multimedia Cards”) measuring 32 mm x 24 mm x 2.1 mm and with a capacity of up to 2 GB are available.

From Skoda Manuals

Whereas page 2 of my Bolero manual states:

Memory card case: SD memory cards (“Secure Digital Memory Cards”), SDHC (“Secure Digital High Capacity Card”) and MMC (“Multimedia Cards”) measuring 32 mm x 24 mm x 2.1 mm and with a capacity of up to 32 GB are available.

Unless it's a regional difference, but I can't think why, as the units are surely the same for different territories, simply with the default language option altered as part of PDI.

As stated above, there are different hardware and software revisions. ;) Hence the question for an Auto-Scan/Diagnostic Protocol to be certain which one is installed here. :)

If the information is taken from the official Skoda Manual

Autorádio Bolero

Superb, Octavia, Yeti anglicky 05.11 (NB! anglicky means english, 05.11 means May 2011)

published on the Skoda Auto Service web-pages Skoda Service, why should it not be reliable and official information?

Please read the page 8:

Requirements of the memory card

Memory cards measuring 32 mm x 24 mm x 2.1 mm or 1.4 mm can be inserted into

the memory card case.

Other memory cards that fit by their size, such as SDHC cards, are not read by the

unit.

PS! Same information on e.g. English, Finnish, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Swedish versions. If you have on printed manual something else, could it be local misprint? 32 MB Cards are always SDHC Cards.

All this means that only SD-cards up to 2 MB are supported, other sizes might work, but are NOT guaranteed to work.

I had issues with a 2010 Bolero, the 8Gb card had to have that folder structure that was deeper than 7 folders.

Then when it had an update it cured it. I have a conventional folder structure now.
