Featured Replies

Morning,

I have spent the past hour flicking through threads on help on what I need to self service my car. Is there a guide on here on what I need, oil etc? I drive a Mk1 2007 1.9TDi vRS, 43,500k

Cheers

Yes, see the 'extremely useful topics' post at the top of this page. Best place to try first is the dealer. Geniune stuff is nearly always the best and not always most expensive. Second place, for oil (quantum-the oem stuff) at least is ebay imo.

If you're not sure, just go to your local dealer.

Last month I paid £36 for:

Oil filter

Air Filter

Sump Plug

5L Quantum oil

And you're due a cambelt if it's not already been done!

Great, how do I find that out?

I will be shopping for the following this month

Oil filter

Air Filter

Sump Plug

Fuel Filter

5L Quantum oil

Front Mintex pads/discs

Great, how do I find that out?

If you've got the receipts from the previous owner, it should be an item on one of them. Also, if it's been serviced by Skoda dealers throughout, they may have recorded it. Or call the previous keeper and ask if it's been done.

Other than that you're a bit in the dark. Cambelt replacement is around £300. Some do the water pump at the same time. If the cambelt fails though, it's going to be expensive, so best to know it's been done.
