Dreaded DPF light and flashing Glow Plug light

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This morning my DPF light came on so at lunchtime i decided to take it up the motorway for a regen. About 5 mins in to the journey the Glow Plug light started flashing as well and i lost the boost (i believe this is what we call limp home mode). I turned the ignition off then back on and the glow plug went off, and i had boost again.

I took the car to a garage. The car had logged a fault (something to do with the boost pressure). The fault has been cleared and also the DPF light has gone off.

I was just wondering if its normal for the Glow Plug light to come on when the DPF light is on? Or have i got two seperate issues here?

Trouble is my missus is taking the car to York tomorrow and i'm worried she might break down.

Thanks,

Can be related. The only time mine has ever gone into limp mode was similar to as you described. But dealer inspected it and was an air pressure sensor. Replaced and problem solved. So yours may be similar.

Get the exhaust pressure sensor checked out too - and replaced under warranty if that applies.

Have you had the 26E6 campaign carried out on your car. It was a new fuel MAP and an improved O2 pressure sensor upgrade.

I had exactly the same thing happen while I was driving at 75 mph, had it scanned, it was low air pressure boost, I was also having problems with the dpf regen, so changed the dpf-exhaust pressure sensor and that cured it.

I had the same problem, it turned out to be the Intake manifold flap valve. £12 to buy, but the manifold has to be removed to get it fitted. So about 1.5 hours in labour. So, I guess we all get the flashing glowplug light and loss of power for anything that goes wrong :-)

Hope it's all sorted soon buddy

DPF faults run as follows (and as per manual)

If a regen fails five times (that may have altered now) due to ignition off or failing to drive suitably the DPF light comes on to tell you you have to drive to regen.

If this is not done the coil light comes on to tell you a forced regen is required

If this is not done then the EML comes on, it goes into limp home and make require work and/or a forced regen

Having said that if something along the lines of a pressure sensor (there is only one) or a temp sensor (there are three) or a lambda probe (just one) log a fault code then then is not possible so will react in the same manner anyhow.

I change sometimes four or five pressure sensors a week these days, however the latest revision seems pretty good.

Thanks for your help guys.

The wife drove to York and back in it at the weekend (400 miles) with no DPF light BUT three miles from home the glow plug light started flashing again.

So i'm assuming its not DPF related but another problem, maybe one mentioned above.

I'll have to get it checked out at the garage then.

VAG cars just aren't as reliable these days are they?

Skoda Assist are on their way to me now to do a second exhaust pressure sensor replacement. The last one was only done a few months ago. Frustrating !

Hello boys , i've got coil light flashing, engine light on and dpf light on?? And i can't make regeneration because i have more then 45 grams, any ideas? Thanks

I had exactly the same issue when i had my vrs tdi. DPF light on followed by the glow plug light. It was an exhaust temp sensor but as mentioned above there is 3 so very difficult to trace which sensor is at fault. Any fault in the system will result in the DPF needing a forced regen as the car won't do one.
