Got my vRS

Featured Replies

As title suggests I picked up my 2005 vRS this afternoon, to say I'm impressed is an understatement so much grunt and it's diesel. Just needs a little TLC to bring it up to near perfect.

A question or two. Should the air filter housing be loose it is screwed down but it wobbles a fair bit.

Secondly as I live in Germany it's a German car and the dash computer is in German is it possible to change the language or is it a re-program from the dealers. The factory navigation I changed to English but can't seem to change the dash computer.

Cheers

It's held there by two bolts on the front, and a rubber grommet / peg type thing on the back.

There shouldn't be too much movement, but you can wobble around a it a bit by hand. If the back lifts up *really* easily, just push down on it with some reasonable force and it should fix it back in to place.

You'd probably know if the back of the air box wasn't secured right at the back though. It happened to me once, and cause a very noticeable dull clonking noise whilst driving!

When you say the language on the dash computer, as you have sat nav, I assume you have the full maxidot like the pic below?

I can't imagine why you can't change the language with VCDS, as that dash pod is universal over Europe so there should be other language options.

Sorry to hijack the thread but is it possible to "activate" this? My 2004 vRS doesn't have this.

Same, I want this for my 06 VRS

Not really possible unfortunately.

I've looked into this a few times, and it seems that it was probably fudged together in the factory, meaning to make it work you need specifc parts (like revision A rather than revision B etc)

The maxidot dashpod is around £500 (that's if you can even find one), and then you need someone to code it in.

I think a couple of members managed to get one working a few years ago, but I'm fairly certain that they were never 100% right, with things like the fuel gauge reading backwards.

Plug and play it certainly aint!!

To be honest it would probably be much easier trying to find a car that had it fitted from the factory. Though this is no easy feat, seeing as it only came when you specced the satnav - which was an £1800 option, so it's a bit rare to say the least.

:o You'd need to have been off your rocker to have paid that!

Here's one

Only about the 3rd time I've ever seen one for sale.

Yes the picture is exactly the same as my dash. The satnav unit I managed to change to English but the display you have pictured is still in German.

Have you read the manual?

The display of text is possible in the following languages:

Czech, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese.

You can have the relevant language set by a specialist garage.

I would have read the manual but unfortunately that's in German too. So by the sounds of it it's a garage job which I guess means Vag Com could do it. Bit odd you can change the nav language but the display upgrade that only comes with nav can't be changed unless by a garage.

I was reading from the electronic one - link on here somewhere

Dammit! If only it was in black. That one has all the toys...
