Should you be able to hear the boost?

Featured Replies

Hi all, bit of an odd question and kinda hard to describe. But should you be able to hear the boost?

tried to reocrd it on my phone but cant really hear it over the road noise, but i can hear the boost and it sounds like a sort of sucking noise?? I have the Forge 007DV and i.m not sure if it is that or if thier is a leak somewhere, its very audible on full throttle around 2-4.5k revs.

The only other Turbo cars i have had where a volvo T5 and a supra and couldnt hear the same noise on either of them.

Sorry its a bit of an odd question but not sure how else to word it :S

I used to a have a K&N filter and that was very noisy. It sounded like a jet taxiing down a runway. Have you got the standard airbox on? Engine bay really quietened down once I put that back on (still got the forge recirc connected)

Normal sound. Don't worry about it. Enjoy the sound, normally quite cars generally so its nice to know there's and engine under there!

Standard TDi110; you can just hear the turbo spooling up if you accelerate from 1000 to 2000 with the radio off, the driver's window open and a wall to your right.

The 1.8T isn't that noticeable with a standard air filter, but the choice of aftermarket air filters make a big difference. As do split/knackered hoses, which many suffer from.

Mine is very loud, but i've got my full induction sytem as well as the remap so it creates a load more boost than a standard one.

Having said that even in my mates standard one with the window down you can hear it, you should be able to otherwise its not right. Could even here it in my mates 1.8T Mk4 Golf with the smaller KO3 turbo.

mine is imensly loud lol along with the waste gate chatter lol
