Broken Lower Breather & Confused!

Featured Replies

My vRS has been cold-start stuttering for a little while, so in the nice weather I decided to have a dig underneath the bonnet :)

After removing the engine covers, I can see my lower breather hose has gone where it meets the upper hose.

Some questions:

Could this be causing my stuttering

MOT is due in the next few days - will it cause any issues?

Do I just change this hose with something like - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-BORA-MK4-LEON-1-8T-20VT-PCV-LOWER-BREATHER-PIPE-/150662906789?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item23143583a5#ht_1712wt_952

Would a catch-can simplify things?

I can feel the broken hose goes to a 't-piece' - I'm also wondering if this is OK or how far back I should replace things - it's a bit oily around/underneath the dipstick area.

Sorry for all the q's - just a bit confused on how to proceed!

Thanks so much guys!

My vRS has been cold-start stuttering for a little while...

I had a cold-start stutter for the best part of a year, then it eventually developed into a miss-fire on boost. Replaced the coil packs and it has not stuttered since.

Have you seen this link?

Andrew.

if you need a hand with replacement coils just let me know I have a few spare. the recall is only for vag coils

thanks a bunch guys. I'll look into the coil issue. (The car was sold as having the coils replaced, but who knows huh!)

I've also ordered a SM OCC to fix the lower breather issue.
