Fuel Gauge

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Well last tuesay I tried the expansion tank trick and filled her with £70 worth of diesel. (1.9tdi pd100). Since Tuesday I've travelled 270ish miles and averaged 63mpg. (on the trip computer).

The thing is the fuel gauge is still reading full and 550miles til refill. My old car went down very steadily and never went down in big jumps. Have I got a dodgy fuel gauge or is this normal???

Any advice welcomed :)

Thanks

Sounds like its normal. You have squeezed an extra £20 of diesel in there lol

Thanks- I'm back on the road tomorrow so will monitor it closely. I'm not used to it being so economic! My old car would have struggled to get 35-40mpg on same driving! :)

Think that's pretty normal for the expansion tank trick I think. Mine does the same... stays full for a good while longer, then goes down as normal, eventually.

Too much thinking so early in the morning :giggle:

That's okay :)

Mine stays on full for the best part of 100 miles and then drops steadily to half full. After half it drops off pretty quick!

at £70 thats about right for having filled the expansion tank as well which I do. I get at least 200m before there is any movement on the gauge and thats at much worse than 60mgp :giggle:

have never managed less than 450m on a tank so if its not moved by then - you may have a problem..

but sounds about right so i wouldnt worry until then
