Vodafone and BTopenzone

Featured Replies

For some reason recently my HTC Desire on Vodafone has started latching onto every single BT Openzone wireless network it can get hold of. It will even choose to connect to a weak BTopenzone signal in preference to my much stronger home network. I sometimes have to switch WiFi off and on 3 or 4 times before it finally connects to the correct network.

I understand that there's some sort of link up between BT and. Vodafone but that's not part of my call plan. It doesn't matter if I tell it to Forget Network it still connects to a BT network.

It's getting on my flippin' nerves! :wall:

How do I stop it from doing this and why did it start?

Have you tried turning off the 'open network' notification and then 'forgetting' the BT network Martin?

I'm not aware of any link up with vodafone though.

At some point in the past you may have connected to a BT openzone network intentionally. Your phone will remember the network name, and each time you are near one will connect to the first one in its preferred network list. Editing this list is harder than it sounds, so the easiest option is to tell it to forget the wifi network altogether then the phone will never connect. The reason it always connects is because the SSID is the same on all BT Openzone networks, so it does not matter where it is located it will always try to connect.

Hi John

It doesn't make any difference if I select Forget Network, it immediately connects to the same network again.

I did once get a message on the phone saying that BTOpenzone was not part of my data plan and to call 191 to upgrade.

will try turning off the open network .notification though...

There is definitely a partnership between BT & vodafone, just checked my plan and I have 1gb of BT Openzone included. If you don't then it'll probably keep punting you on it to try and dupe you to upgrade your plan. The sneaky beggars.

I'm dumping Vodafone ASAP, they are carp. Really poor customer service.

I stand corrected! :(

Not got it on my (soon to be saying goodbye to) plan though.

Have you recently installed the Vodafone app? When I installed it annoyingly logged onto the BT WIFI despite it not being part of my package - I uninstalled it and the problem went away....

It's quite recent, within the last 3 months or so I think.
