Handbrake rattling, any gear, ~2000RPM

Featured Replies

Ahhhh! Doing my head in!

It sounds like it is coming from the dash, very plastic on plastic vibrating kind of rattle... but grabbing the handbrake makes it disappear.

Anyone else had this and know exactly what it is that's rattling / what needs doing to stop it?

I'm never having kids - rattles.....! AHHHH!

Check the seat belt anchors are not hitting the center console, very common, and very annoying.

Good call. Drivers side has plenty of room, but passenger side did rattle in the past, so I put a strip of velcro over it. Could have worn through or something though... I will check that later, thanks.

As said check the seat belts anchor point. I sit quite close to the wheel and this caused it.

Sounds a bit like a ping pong ball rolling around lol.

Hm... not sure if it was the seatbelt again or not. The velcro did look a bit worn, but 'manually' hitting it against the trim was still a dampened knock, not a horrible plastic on plastic clicking.

I undid the two torx at the end (near the handbrake cable, under the ashtray bit) and pushed the whole of the handbrake cover trim over towards the passenger side as much as I could, and then did the torx back up. For whatever reason this seems to have stopped the rattle, but I am still not entirely sure why! B)

I'll have to take the trim out at one point and see if I can figure out why.
