Brake upgrades

Featured Replies

Really wanting some bigger brakes what size discs and calipers are needed? any recommendations

Would love some Brembos

anyone have any links?

main choices are 312s from many VAG cars or 323 Brembos from the LCR

what about the rears?

256mm rears from FWD cars (mk1 Octavia vRS, LCR etc) fit straight on

do the 312s or 323s fit straight on aswell?

As long as you get the full kit, calipers, carriers etc then yeah. Worth noting the 323`s need 17`s and a decent offset/spoke design to fit.

cheers matt !

Has anyone got braided brake lines for the 312mm set up? Are they worth doing? Any links at all? Also would I need the 312mm splashguards also? I am definitely keen on doing this upgrade.

Also has anybody bought the 312mm brake kit in the link above from gbautomotive? How do you rate the finish and refurb on the kit? Also what brand discs and pads come in the kit. Also do you not need 312mm splashguards.

Great service from gbautomotive when I used them.

I bought one of the caliper and carrier sets.

I bought pads and discs elsewhere because I wanted Pagid.

The goods came quickly, were packaged well and sent by courier.

Condition was tip top but I needed to paint mine obviously.

Lots of pics and stuff here.

Little tip, if you're painting yours, pull the rubber bung

out of the reservoir and tip away any residual brake fluid

before you get your paintbrush out. I didn't and ended up with

blistered paint on one of mine and had to repaint it.

As for braking performance, they should be ample for up to 200bhp

if you have/are planning any more than that then I'd say get the Brembos.

You will find your choices of wheel fairly limited though. :wonder:

Dont buy Ibiza Cupra AP Racing calipers...

I spent all of sunday working on the other halfs ones for a disc and pad change... the alu calipers just corode like nothing real and make changing anything a real pig.

Awesome performance from them though!

I've got a 256mm rear 312mm front full kit for sale if you want ;-)

I've read that the rear discs don't do a lot of breaking, so pretty pointless upgrading them.

As above, if you want bigger front discs then 312mm from an Octavia or Golf are what you want. Obviously you will need a the calliper fit and a decent make of pads.

surely the rear brakes are used when under harsh braking?

Yeah under heavy braking the kinda help keep the back settled, plus they look 10x better

think i might opted for 312 on the front then 256 on the rear like you have matt do you have any pictures of how it looks front and back?

Thanks grrr666 just what I was after, much appreciated. Think I'm going to take the plunge, but maybe get a price from gbautomotive minus the pads as they have wear sensors on and plus I would like the Pagid pads that get good reviews on here.

Think I'm going to do the 256mm rear brakes also, worth doing just for the improvement in looks and if it adds a bit more braking performance bonus!

I had 312mm and 256mm on both my Fabia estate and my Ibiza Bocanegra and brakes were more than up to the job from me :)

Anyone have the part no to hand for the longer TT brake lines advised to fit along with the 312mm kit at all?

I've never felt the need, standard lines reach fine and you can feed a little more through the eyelet that clamps on the hub if need be.

TT lines are a bit longer but the inboard end is 180• out so you either have to twist the line (not a good idea) or modify the bracket on the chassis leg.

Cheers Techie for the heads up on that then, I was only considering them really for ease of servicing later on in the cars life.

I shall stick with the original brake lines then I think.

256mm rear kit fitted. As mentioned. Not really needed but look a bit better than stock, especially when you have much bigger brakes up front.

Also a set already green and wouldn't need painting
