Power steering warning light

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Been lurking for a while but am now a very happy owner of a Fabia VRS. I can't believe I haven't owned one of these before - absolutely perfect for me.

Anyway on the way home tonight the power steering warning light came on. Having a quick trawl through the site seems to point at a faulty steering sensor. I'll phone the dealer tomorrow and hopefully it will be under warranty.

What I'm worried about though is it still ok to drive to the dealers? 25+ miles?

Thanks in advance

Fine to drive. You just need some more arm muscle. It may not be the sensor, but that is a likely culprit.

Thanks, thats made me feel a bit happier.

It was only after the light came on and I started analysing it that I thought it felt a bit notchy. Having only had the car for 3 days though it was difficult to be sure though.

If it goes heavy, then light, then hevay, then the light come on, then it just goes heavy - that is classic PAS sensor failing symptoms. Thats the sensor reading, then not, then reading, then not, then finally crashing. Ensure no water is in the housing when refitted, but if using a garage, this should be obvious. Ensure the drainage channels are free underneath the scuttle panel / by windscreen wiper machanism, as on mine water was getting in and I went through about 3 sensors in 1 year before realising what was happening. :(

mmm...No warning light the next day (Tuesday) and no warning light today either.

However quick trip out tonight - warning light on the way there, nothing on the way back. Steering feels fine.

Is this typical of the sensor breaking down?

The vRS has a different PAS sensor than jasons and mine for example so the classic sensor problem is probably not applicable (although still could be). The vRS uses the separate sensor and wiring loom with twin blades in the rack and very rarely fail. Problem is more than likely the battery earth lead and/or battery. See my sticky thread for better into.

Cheers buddy that is possibly good news.

Which sticky are you talking about BTW? I can't see one mentioning battery/earth lead?
