New Superb Greenline

New Superb virtually here

Only 1 day to go (all being well)

Car is showing landed 27/9/11 at Grimsby. Down for despatch on the dealer tracker. Dealer has Reg No & all paperwork processed, but as of today it's still not at dealer.

Dealer says Thursday mid morning. Better be as the Passat goes then.

After 5 x company Passats every 3 years + I am having a Greenline Elegance twindoor as it comes in Rosso Brunello with wood decor & Ivory interior.

Last Passats have been 2.0l 140 Tdi so going down to a 1.6l 105 was a worry. However had a 105 SE Estate car from Skoda for a week & it drove really nice & loved it, so took the risk.

Welcome to Skoda! I hope you enjoy your Superb.

Yours will be one of the last Rosso Brunello Superbs. I have a twindoor in this colour and during it's 2.5 year life it has gained many compliments.

I am replacing my 1.9Tdi Superb with a Greenline SE Combi. Before making a decision, I had extended test drives of both the Passat Estate and Superb Greenline. The Passat has a lovely action to its 6 speed 'box, however, the 5 speed Superb 'box is almost as good to use, and in reality, the less frequent changes is more relaxing.

The Greenline can be punted around corners quite enthusiastically thanks to the lowered suspension. By comparison, the Passat has more body roll.

Doing an identical motorway commute at 60-65mph, the Superb Greenline returned 75mpg, slightly better than the similiarl engined Passat.

It would be interesting if you could record your fuel consumption from new, for the information of fuel misers. Spiritmonitor.de is my preferred fuel recording website. I find it simpler to use than fuelly.com.

I got mine in the end of September. The delivery time was 4 months 3 weeks so... Well, I've never run into that kind of situation that I'd have to wait for so long to have a European car!

It's not a rocket when not "spiced up" but I purchased a tuning box from German CRD-Tuning. They promise 132HP, 319Nm after installing their tuning box. Well, dunno exactly if it's so but the car feels more powerful (more power & torque) with that tuning box. However, there's an awful turbo lag and the turbo "wakes up" approx. at 1700-1800 revs. But I'm used to it since I'm a SAAB nut and older SAABs always had some turbo lag...

It was to be the new Greenline day today. Car arrived at dealer yesterday Was supposed to take delivery today? Got a call mid morning from the dealer. Can't deliver as on removing the wrap, paint damage to roof & boot discovered. Quite deep scratches & not a polish out job. Choice = reject & wait for new build date or rectify & accept. So accepting if rework is not noticable.

That means another week plus wait. Disappointed as was really looking forward to today.

Car looks ace though

Well the hire car company at airport had an upgrade.....

Combi Greenline II by pure chance with all the extra stuff on that I've ordered on mine.

Heated F & R seats, but in cloth

Auto dimming mirrors, didn't realise door mirrors dimmed as well as interior.

Park Assist

Heated washer jets

Bi Xenons

It also has the auto retract boot cover, very nice but not worth the £80, so glad not ordered that.

It has Bolero radio vs mine which will have Columbus, but connected to my phone straight away, and people at the other end of the line have commented how much better the calls are than from my Volvo. The muicrophone is a bit dodgy in the Volvo I reckon.

Usual problem equating foreign spec to compare with UK spec but apart from that, now just cannot wait for my car to arrive.

wooohooooo!!

Not totally figured out the park assist yet, it seems to miss spaces that are OK as proved by me reversing into one without even having to try. Yet picking up spaces a bit late and when you stop, then telling you to go on. Must be ne that is at fault, probably driving too close / too far away / too fast?

Also bi Xenons. Brilliant. Really noticeable how the driver's side widens the illuminated area under urban conditions, and the way the motorway mode just eases the area of vision out. Cornering mode with the kurv function very good. Only slight criticism is it needs a couple of pencil spots just to pick out the very very very far distance if you are really :cough: tanking :cough: along a wide straight road out in the forests, but I'm really really nit picking now.

Was worried about the ride with the lowered suspension but just so comfortable and quiet. The pick up and torque on this one is better than the 1.6 I test drove. That was brand new showroom car and engine very tight. But have taken it down a few winding roads out in the stocks and surprised how easy it is to get a wiggle on for a car that tbh is basically a wafter.

To be honest prefer the Passat cruise control but not much in it.

Just cannot wait for my car now.

btw did I say woooohooooo ?

Too bad! :( Let's hope they can fix it ASAP.

How long did it take to have the car from the order? Like I already told, it took 4 months 3 weeks for my car (of which 1 week it was in the local Skoda dealer's garage, don't know why it took so long over there? Maybe they had to fix some bruises as well?).

I'm quite pleased with the lowered suspension. Great for cornering but still quite comfortable. It goes nicely together with that common rail tuning box I purchased.

Another additional question to all those ones who have purchased Skoda SuperB II Greenline:

If you've chosen Bolero audiosystem, did it come with 10 speakers? I've read (afterwards) that it's not possible to have Bolero audiosystem with 10 speakers for Greenline but the salesman (who sold me the car) never told me about it. So it's with 8 speakers and the sound quality is pretty lousy :S

Interesting with a hire car and park assist. So if it kerbs the alloys when parking and they try to charge you for it, you can say it wasn't me it was the car!! ;) ;)

Apart from the unfortunate paint incident it has taken approx 17 weeks to now. Expect to take delivery sometime week after next.

When picked up it already had a humongous scrape down the RHS behind the rear wheel arch. only 5000km too, plus scratches on rear bumper from luggage and a parking space door ping on driver's door. :(

Wheels still un-kerbed when I gave it back. ;)

Not really that comfortable with the dry steering when using park assist, feels bad for front tyre life.

This was one of my reasons for opting for the 2.0 CR over the Greenline. An upgraded sound system is always the first option box I tick on a car.

Yep, maybe the manufacturer has taken away all options/components which would increase the weight of 1.6 CR TDi Greenline, including spare tyre, Skoda's own motor warmer, heated windscreen, 10 speakers (audio system), electric seats etc. Bummer! :(

Car paint damage is repaired? Will be collecting Monday/Tuesday subject to repair work being okay.

My new Greenline SE Combi arrives on 20th October. This was a surprise when the leasing company emailed me last Friday, as they had previously indicated delivery would be in December 2011, and later revised this to January 2012.

Well, it finally arrived today. Only got to drive a few miles home, so will report on the car in the next days. Lights good though.

Now I need to read the manual

The manual is the bit that helps to get your Blackberry & IPod touch music working through The Columbus via Bluetooth, especially the Blackberry.

These work very well

More later

Yes, I also had some difficulties while connecting my Windows phones to car's Bluetooth system. But now it's working just fine :)

Expecting my new Greenline Estate in the next month or so.

Is it easy to get a spare wheel as a post purchase extra? Do the lower profile tyres lead to any difficulty in getting a spare?

Cheers

Well, I guess it's possible but will cost a lot. Better to purchase a cheap wheelrim and tyre and fit them into the spare wheel space.

I asked for that spare wheel as well the parking heater but they were quite expensive to be installed afterwards :(

Well, I have had my new Greenline Elegance 5 days & 600 miles & I love it.

I really like

Columbus Voice activation system - works very well, nearly perfect

How the memory setting sets up seating etc as the door is opened

Electric seats, there can be no excuse for not getting a perfect setting

Twin door hatch versatility once I got used to the sequence

Ivory interior, although plenty of cleaning ahead

Drives really nice & pulls well enough even after having a 140 Passat

Smooth & quite

71 mpg & on 59.8 overall at the moment

Maxi dot is clear & easy to use

Phone integration is very good

Headlamps are ace, especially the footpath lighting, far superior than the Passat

Really like the Bluetooth media for iPod

Heated seats - first time I have had them & nice on low heat 1st thing in the morning, not as good as a Webasto parking heater if you've ever had one

Climate - seems more stable than the heat control in the Passat

What could.be better?

Door storage like in the Passat so you can carry a drinks bottle etc

Having an electric handbrake, I am not a major fan but, this is because the adjustable armrest is ace, but makes the handbrake a reach over

Having the Same cruise stalk as the Passat. The Superb is good but NOT as good

Anyway there's just a few things & I am Still finding new stuff & have a few settings to alter

Will report again later

As a recent Greenline driver, I decided to order a spare wheel kit (including foam insert, brace, jack etc) from my local dealer, Startin Skoda of Powick, Worcester. The Skoda part number for the spare wheel change kit is 3T0 071 108; however, the wheel/tyre needs to be ordered separately. The kit and spare wheel/tyre arrived at the dealer within 3 days and cost £135.00 (inc VAT). Considering Skoda UK charge £85.00 for a spare wheel ordered as a factory option this price is perhaps a bit steep, however, it is the price for peace of mind.

Incidentally, the tyre fitted to the spare wheel is a Conti SportContact with a '94' load rating and 'V' speed rating, higher than the 91H Conti PremiumContact 2E tyre fitted as standard to Superb Greenline's. I suppose it was not worth the trouble in stocking a 91H spare wheel/tyre combo, where the standard 'S' uses the 94V rated tyres.

You may also be interested to hear that on my second complete fill-up the car had travelled 789.60 miles and achieved 63.10 mpg, not far short of the published 64.20 mpg Combined figure. This was based on approx 90% motorway/A roads and 10% urban driving.
