Check mileage in the service book. Renewal after four years also seems to be being recommended now, even if you haven't hit the mileage.

If yours does need doing, it can be worth checking on eBay. I've seen dealers offering attractive prices (well, much less than the normal price).

Dont go by the service book, that only has the correct information as at the time it was printed. The interval can and does vary from time to time based on failure rates and examination of removed belts. For example the MK1 Octy vRS in 2001 had a belt change interval of more than 100,000 miles, and following loads of failures was reduced to 60K miles or 4 years. If you were to go by the service book you could run a massive risk of engine failure.
