Uneven screenwash fan jets

Featured Replies

Have found my screenwash appears to almost pour out of passenger side fan jet and seems very foamy. The fan "mist" seems lighter than usual driver's side. Guessing the fan jet is bust passenger side and as screenwash flows more easily out of it there's less pressure for the driver's side?

I suspect you need to remove the scuttle cover to replace the fan jets? If that's the case figure I should just renew both regardless.

Drivers fan may be blocked so the left is getting more.

Removal and cleaning maybe all you'll need. What fluid have you been using?

During previous winter used the "fan jet safe" stuff from Lidl in 5 litre bottles. During summer/up until now been using the small bottles from Lidl that dilute alot and have no antifreeze.

A torch shone some light on the problem. A pin hole is at driver's side, and there's a big gaping slot passenger side.

The jets simply pop out and are about £2 from your dealer. No need to remove scuttle panel etc.

I had the same problem last year.

Haynes tells me lies again :( lol. Cheers will pop over dealer tomorrow, hope they stock them.

This has happened to me twice. :wonder:

As said they are very cheap parts to replace.

I think I paid £1.50 for the first and £2.00 for the second.

They just pop out of the hole in the scuttle panel and

pull off the pipe.

Keep hold of the pipe with something after you've

pulled the jet off so you don't lose it down the hole.

2min job

Should read;

This will be a 2min job

Now it's 2hrs  :S

Been there....:giggle:

Out of interest, is it possible to change the rear jet as it is shooting out a dribble on my rear window and is next to useless!

Thanks

Check for a wet carpet rear passenger side. If it's wet, the washer pipe has probably become unclipped just behind the trim that runs from parcel shelf to bottom.

Also you can put a pin in the rear one and move to reposition the jet.

Yes. I mullered mine when I did the rear wiper mod.

Crushed it with the arm puller

Cost about £1.50, don't have part number though.

To remove just pull straight out.

Excellent, thanks for the reply. I'll pick one up on the way home tonight and install this weekend

Cheers for the info mate.

Surprisingly given how regularly these seem to break, and how tiny they are, my local dealers had none in stock. I'll have to start going to TPS instead or something.

The jet unclipped as easy as anything from the front. I found you can just about get your fingers at a squeeze/bent long nose pliers under the front of the scuttle cover, and needed the leverage underneath to get the new jet to clip on to the pipe.

Bumping an old thread, I know, but anyone who's replaced their jets do you happen to have the part number?

Popped into TPS tonight to pick up some service bits and also got a new rear wiper blade and a fan jet as I never get round to going for fiddly little bits. The jet he gave me was a 5J part number which rung a bell in the store (turned out to be the Mk2 Fabia chassis code), but since he looked it up by reg number and gave me the right 6Y wiper I assumed the TPS guy knew best. However I've fitted it, and while my original driver's side jet is a fan spray as normal, the passenger side appears to be two separate streams but nothing really in the middle. So I'm wondering whether the 5J is an official part that's superseded the old one or whether he just got lazy, couldn't find a Mk1 Fabia one so gave me a Mk2 instead...

The part no I have on my receipt when I bought a couple last year is: 5J0 955 985

Sounds like you have the right one. Maybe you've just got a duff one?

Maybe. I'll take the drivers one off at some point (I binned the old passenger jet, thinking nothing could go wrong) and see what part number is on it. It's not that I mind them being mismatched as it's still better than water literally just pouring out of the old jet, but if it's just cos he was being too lazy to find me the right part then next time I go in I'll blag a free correct one :) maybe I'll just buy a matching one so at least it's the same both sides...

Well the're the ones I have on mine ( I did both at the same time) and they definitely spray in a fan :)

Part number I have is 5J0 955 985. Fits perfectly.

Weird. Yeah, it fits perfectly, took seconds to fit once I'd got enough grip to pull the old one out. It's just the spray pattern that's a bit different. Oh well, it's better than having to fill the screenwash every week due to squirting about a quarter of a bottle every time I use the washers ;)

I didn't notice a difference in the spray pattern between the new and the old. Will check more closely next time.

I've had the other side go now, but this time the plastic insert stayed put on the windscreen. Pushed it back in in the correct orientation and it's stayed in fine. I suspect when something blocks up behind it, it's designed so it flies out rather than damaging the pipes themselves.
