Tool kit

Featured Replies

Changing a wheel last night I had cause to dig out the tool kit that hides in the spare wheel. I bought my 09 VRS second hand, and according to the manual it should have a plastic pair of tweezers for getting the wheel bolt covers off, and the polystyrene block that holds it all together seems to have a space for something large, similar size to the jack, that isn't there, and I'm guessing I don't really need 3 towing eyes. Is there a definive list of what should be in there anywhere?

Mine seems to have

- Jack

- Wheel brace

- Torx screwdriver

- Spanner

- Springy hook thing (for pulling wheel trims off?)

- 3 x Towing eyes

- a plastic rod with a screw thread on the end (no idea but I dind't take it for a good look)

The tweezers should be here:

And look like this:

The spring for removing the wheel trims isn't normally included in cars with alloy wheels. Are you sure that it isn't the pair of tweezers?

The large void underneath the jack is to stow a detachable towbar (if fitted).

Interesting, that's a completely different layout to mine where the jack is across to one side with a big space (I guess for the tow bar) on the other side. Definitly a steel springy thing rather than apair of tweezers, I did manage to use to remove the not covers but it's not ideal as it'd be easy to scratch the wheel with it.

I bought used and the spare was a worn tyre. When I complained the dealer robbed out a rew alloy and tool set from another car.

As a result I got a springy thing even though I have alloys. I had to acquire the tweezers later.

This is going on all the time in dealers and has been for decades - you have to know exactly what should come with your car and make sure it's there when it's delivered.

"a plastic rod with a screw thread on the end" that should be holding the spare wheel down.

Don't forget the little wire hook to get the sidelight bulbs out...........
