Summer tyres

Featured Replies

Well I've got my winter tyres to go on soon, but I'll be needing some new summer tyres after that.

When I bought the car (CR170) it had Michelin Pilot Sport 3 on the front and Contisportcontact 3 on the back. The fronts are going to need replacing soon so what do people reccomend? So far I've loved the grip from the current tyres, but do find I get a lot more road noise than than my old car.

Get the Contisports fitted then you'll have 4 matching tyres, I hate mix & match

Autocar tyre test published last month put Goodyear Asymmetric 2's as the top performer, beating mich, conti etc.

I've ordered a set of 4 Goodyears, should be on the car in the next week or so depending on stuff. I'll post up some thoughts when they're on.

TBH there was not much in it between the Michelins and Goodyears in the test.. and in fact i've been pretty impressed with the Conti3's on mine - good wear, good grip.. only disappoinment is the drop-off in performance when you're below 3mm.

Uniroyal Rain Sport 2 (Rainmasters)

Made by Continental but cheaper and better

Er - also - anyone know when summer tyre prices fluctuate (to their lowest point) on mytyres?

Glad someone else has noticed this, as I'd given up going on about it.

Haven't bought Contis since 2004 because of this...

Interesting, I was thinking conti's to end up with a matched set and as they're about £30 each cheaper than the pilot sports, but that puts me off them a little. I've got Pilots (road 3) on the bike and they're fantastic, though there's probably no relation between the bike and car versions of the same name.

As for price fluctuations that's why I'm asking now when I'm not going to want them until the spring, so I can keep an eye on prices for a while. with winter tyres not being that common, I guess a lot of people might be replacing normal tyres around now to have plenty of tread over the winter. Then abainf I may be being optimistic about the average driver who probably only replaces tyres when the car fails and MoT.

How do the Goodyear Assym 2s compare pricewise, to the CS3 and PS3s? I'd be tempted by those.
