Scratches on front bumper - advice please

Featured Replies

Grrr!

Our 59 Octavia (Brilliant Silver Metallic) has acquired a selection of scratches on the front bumper. I know exactly when it happened - I parked behind an old red Escort last night that I thought might have been dumped it was so ropey, but when I came back it had gone. As I discovered this mornin, it left its calling card on our car. Grrr!

The total affected area is about 5"x2" with and, although many of the scratches are very light, there are a couple of the have gone through to the black plastic. And to say nothing of the red paint that's been left in places. Grrr!

I'll take it to the local Skoda dealer for a quote of course, but does anyone have any suggestions for a mobile repair outfit - near Dartford / Gravesend in North Kent.

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest that looking on the internet for some local 'Chips Away' repair company may be an option, might be cheaper and some of the repairs they do are pretty good dependant on the guy doing it......

Might not be as bad as you think, find a local detailer or ask a local smart repair to try machining it out first.

Sounds like that won't machine out as there is no paint or lacquer........ :(

Exactly the same thing happened to me over the weekend, but with yellow paint left from the offending vehicle and not red. Its really annoying as the car's only 3 months old and I try and look after my cars but others dont care.

Can you put up the quotes that you get for the repair so I can get a rough idea?

Thanks for all your replies.

I took the car to our local Skoda garage, who had a look and said the SMART repair guy who visits them every Thursday to sort out minor stuff on part-ex vehicles would be able to deal with it. £80 + VAT including a courtesy car for the day. Very happy with this, as it's only a little bit dearer than the cheapest mobile SMART quote I could find, plus it's being dealt with by the Skoda garage. I'll let you know how it goes.

For anyone who's interested ... this job was done a couple of weeks ago. Very good job indeed. And charged £65 + VAT, not the £80 + VAT quoted. This included a courtesy car for the day. Thumbs up to Motorline Skoda in Dartford!
