My 2 year old car was mapped about 18 months, 25,000 miles ago and has been running oh so sweet!

This morning I pulled off on a damp steep hill expecting wheelspin/traction control to kick in. Instead the clutch slipped badly stinking out the interior and clutch pedal momentarily without pressure.

It quickly appeared to self correct itself, ie went back to normal and now appears ok.

Do these clutches self adjust?

Please could any respondents refrain from the 'dont get a remap' / 'told you so'comments I like remapped cars and have previously and will in the future always go for a map.

If a new clutch is required i,m doubting any dealer warranty assistance but know a fair number are 'remap' friendly. What are my chances of blagging one?

Is it worth splashing out for an uprated clutch unit? What do these do to the drivability - this is my 100 mile per day commuter often in heavy jams.

What uprated clutches are recommended? How much fitted?

How much is standard clutch fitted? Im guessing about £600.00??

Thanks all.

+1 for the remap ;-)

Sorry I can't help much but I would be surprised if a 2 year old 50k car would need a new clutch, remap or not.

Clutches should be good for 100k these days, I have driven mapped 2.0 turbo diesels for 5 years now with mileages up to 98.5k without ever changing a clutch so I would suggest it was just a blip or some stickiness somewhere that has sorted itself out, just keep an eye on it.

I bet you wish you'd gone for the dsg I you drive a lot in congestion.

Had the car been parked overnight prior to setting off?

There are quite a few threads on here regarding clutch judder when under load first thing on a morning. Just like the condensation threads they tend to begin around this time of year.

Moisture settles on the clutch overnight as the temperatures drop and the high load causes the clutch to slip. After that it is fine.

You are brave, 500 miles a week in a petrol!?
