remote phone connection

Featured Replies

I know you can do Ethernet over mains, what about ordinary phone lines? Putting Sky into one of the bedrooms and will need to run a phone line in or Sky will charge full rate instead of multiroom. Not really wanting to have to pull a phone cable in. Any other ideas?

You dont need a 2nd line for multiroom, only the main box.

I thought you did so that they can check that both boxes are running at the same premises, and that you aren't sharing with friends etc?

No, all boxes on a multiroom subscription need to be connected to the phone line, or they will charge you full rate for all boxes. Had this argument with them earlier in the year and ended up running another extension into the opposite corner of the house.

I've found a kit on Amazon which looks as though it would work, at £36. It's a bit more than I wanted to pay but its certainly better than running phone cable externally down 2 sides of the house which is what I'd have to do otherwise.

2 relatives have multiroom, and checked today and neither are connected to a 2nd line. Only the main box.

I got away with not having my second box connected for about a year. Then following a few letters they started charging full rate until I connected the second box.

Sky will catch up with them, and then backdate the full subscription fees. In the small print of the multiroom contract it states that all boxes on multiroom must be connected to live telephone lines on the same number. By not connecting them they are in breach of contract.

Aye, one has been contacted and had to connect their box over the weekend.

They're going to simply connect it one a month and force it to dial sky.
