wheel painting

Featured Replies

hey guys im a 18 year old student who is feed up of the boring hub cap look, ideally i would love some alloys but that ****ard insruance compnay will not allow me to have a wheel mod :( so i was thinking either to sand the wheels down zinc prime them, spray them silver to look like peper pots then clear laquer. but then came the issue of all the paint needed costing alot, as a student its not like im rolling it it pwahhahaha :) . so i was wondering can you get laquer that can go straight onto clean steel as i have sanded a small patch on my spare wheel down to the clean steel and tbh it looks really nice, so if there is a straight to metal laquer then it would be ideal. hope you guys have some knowledge on the laquer side of the world.

Many thanks a proud and skint fabia driver :)

I doubt any laquer would last long directly onto steel. . .

Some paints like hammerite are all 3 things in one. . .might be an option.

would idealy like the steel look will have to go to halfrauds, B@Q, focus ect to see whats about.

Tbh if you can afford alloys (but the insurance wont allow it) you can afford primer, paint and laquer

cheers man, thats my spare wheel done as a tester so as it came out well ill put the spare on the car and take a wheels off and start the sanding again haha

Just wondering why you zinc primered them??

  • Author

Reduces risk of rust if it got through, well that was what my friend told me as well as it was the same price as normal primer

gonna be a bit spoiled when you need a new tire and they rebalance the wheel and take that weight off the front.

  • Author

well thats my spare wheel which is the only one with a weight on the front (thank god) used it as a tester wheel so when the others are done thats going back into the carboot lol so wont be too bad :)

You should get your weights put on internally before doing this!

That's only my spare wheel which I used as a tester, already had my 4 others re balanced with weights internally
