vRS Hatch vs Estate video

Featured Replies

I know there will be more variables than ppl on the planet, it surprised me that there was such a difference??

Video of launch comparison between vRS

Apologises if this has been posted before, and it is in NO WAY meant to be a flame session...

edit

oh hold on its a rolling start...crap comparison

I imagine a race round a circuit would be another story though, with the hatch having a shorter wheelbase it'll be more chuckable round the corners. SPEED vs HANDLING... it'd be pretty damn close!

This has been discussed before, you've got to remember the review is for the estate. It will also depend on the reaction times etc etc. Real world the estate and hatch would be neck and neck with the estate maybe nosing it

Looks good though :)

I thought the Combi was only about 20kg more than the hatch anyway?

Yes, the difference is so small that a real world test would probably depend more on the driver's reaction than in the car's power.

However, it's true that the Estate has a slightly better coefficient of aerodynamics due to it's longer back and that's were this difference comes from.

Of course this comes at a price..... It's look! :giggle: (I know there are many estate owners here, don't get started!)

It's surprising how a little aerodynamic change can increase the cars behavior in real life situations :)

The Combi estate is lighter than the hatchback.

I thought the hatch and the estate had the same wheelbase, with the estate being only about 5 kgs lighter, although that shouldn't really make much of a difference.

thats just the RS right?

Ah yes, you are right about the wheelbase.

thats just the RS right?

As far as I know, yeah.

thats just the RS right?

Yes, the vRS Hatch is 5 kg heavier than the Combi/Estate/Big-long one.

In other versions the hatch is around 20kg lighter

Ha, knew i'd bought a faster one

thats why i want the estate, more subtle looks and that little bit faster

one may have different tyres on, (me and can have seen that difference , and we both have hatches) they may have turned traction off on the estate ect ect ect.....

yes i agree there are many factors to take into account but still,

the driver in the estate could be Frankie Detorie, and Johnny Vegas might be driving the hatch so the weight coudl have made a difference etc etc

but lets hope they did a fair test as i always suspected the estate would be a smidge quicker

Yeah but they look crap :giggle:

(In all seriousness I've never liked estates. Ever. Any of them.)

Estates are a little different :-) that's why I like them!

I like the hatch too...but I've always liked estates! :-p

I love my estate and most people have commented on how good it looks. I'll gloss over the fact that I always have chavs gawping at it driving home from Swansea every night

Sorry, wheelbase is the same for hatch and estate. Estate is lighter and more aerodynamic, so I would expect the estate to be faster, but you are right, it would be close.

Opinions are like you know whats...

The Combi estate is lighter than the hatchback.

the vrs estate is lighter weight than the vrs hatch but non vrs estate is heavier than a non vrs hatch

vrs hatch adds balast

That's kinda convinced me!! SWMBO has the hatch and we luuuuurrrrrrrrvvvee it. I was thinking of getting one to replace my Octi vRS tdi, but having seen a few estates now, I'm realy tempted......

As long as they put in 5w40 oil........ :D

GO hatch, cos i love the estates and they are the better car and RARER, so lets keep it that way!

Estates are for people with dogs or a lot of **** to carry! I wouldn't choose to buy one unless I had either of those and I can fit my kit bag and other stuff in a hatch no problem :) haha! As for speed etc. I don't really see how there can be any noticeable difference.
