Although I'm only guessing, I would have thought it to be the same box.

It adds 25bhp and 40lb/ft torque.

Honest.

They do fit

Only useful if you want to fit a 3" MAF

what would be the benefit of that? Need to change the tip if you did that as well wouldn't you?

Non unless your going hybrid/big turbo.

I had the S3 one (w/3" maf) if it helps.

Yes.

If box is for a 3" MAF you will require a different tip to fit the engine side of the MAF. Pointless if sticking with K03s turbo.

Steve

Is it not the same air box.

Is it not the same air box.

No. The outlet sizes are different!

vRS is 2.5" (IIRC)

S3 is 3"

Steve

I would expect the Cupra R airbox to be the same size in terms of area and where it fits in car, and the only difference would be the 3" MAF used that would fit into the top section. Therefore they would not be interchangable with the VRS. The TT/S3/CUPRA R with the K04 turbos's all have the 3" MAF. I would see no benefit to modify a VRS to fit the Cupra R airbox plus 3" MAF unless going to the upgrade of the K04 turbo.

The Golf MK4 1.8T/TT 180BHP/A3 1.8T/Seat Cupra 180BHP are same airbox as VRS with 2.5" MAF.

thanks for the advice guys would anyone recommend a forge split-r dump valve, or is there a more suitable dump valve out there looking for sound as well as performance

oooo.

Love the new Forge, bit on the steap side int it? :S

I payed £75 for my first one back in 2006 iirc

Had multiple ones now.

Forge 007

Forge RS (the picture looked ok but OMG its F'in Mahoosive)

Bailey dv26

Forge 007p black

Still got a Compbrake one FS off the other car.

Forge 007 gets my vote tho the other 2 I had wer crap.

On the LCR airbox, you could always use the botom half with your top could you not? use the larger air pipe

I very much doubt the new 008 comes with springs, spacers and keyring

Tuning kit (4 springs, 3 spacers) add another £22

Key Fob add another £3.60 (quite surprised at how 'cheap' this is. Was expecting at least £15)

The LCR/S3 airboxes have the same inlet, its only the outlet which is bigger, so no point in 'mixing' airboxes tbh.

The other option with airboxes are the R32 airboxes, which iirc have a 3" MAF, but have a 2nd air-inlet.

If memory serves, they have a 2nd airfeed from the top of the grill area running to the right of the battery tray.

The R32 does have the upper 3" MAF as per LCR and S3/TT225. The lower part is also slightly different to the VAG group mentioned previously. It does not have 2 inlets but has a larger single inlet. Instead of the lower plastic pipe fitting to the inner wing as per VRS type, it travels down the side of the inner wing and battery and up behind headlight and fits to top of the grill/front panel. This is a slight improvement to our airbox but better off fitting a 3" feed to our box TBH.

My link to that mod here:

yea thats the bit I was on about, its just hard to get hold of just the funnel.

If your like me and wanted it to look OEM then the R32 box is good and better than just the wing feed. I dint get it tho as they were expencive.

that is a thing of beauty lol

all that in a octy 4x4

To further complicate things, isnt it only the R32 DSG airbox that has the larger single inlet!?!?

Hence the R32 DSG airbox mod..?

Isn't it that the DSG R32 has a bigger snorkel pipe than the normal ?

I did come across a bigger carbon fibre snorkel from the states. But I'm guessing maybe mk.5 and not mk.4 airboxes ?

The 'water scoop' method :giggle:

We still have fords in Devon

****e.. I though we got rid of all the Fords off the road

Don't you start, bad enough with DOX going on

Do i have to start adding disclaimers to every DIY thread that states "do this at your own peril or risk"

We all know this before we start the job in the first place.

Sorry i feel a Clive lol coming now, that's how mad i am..... :giggle:

I know you are only jesting buddy. Why not get a shared car, like a off roader...and drive straight though the fords.

It must be that sweltering heat down south....

True and to be honest the way the air get in is not that great as it goes behind the headlight. Our VRS's don't have the same vent and space for it at the front like the Golf.

I have gone back to running my modded airbox for a while and may wrap my ABD CAI in heat wrap on the engine side to try to see if that helps as the alloy pipework does get hot.

Good plan

I assume that's what you meant ?

With a little help from some forced induction, they're are a consideration.
