BOTTOM CRANKSHAFT PULLEY

Featured Replies

Hi there forum,i have a 2000 octavia 1.9tdi with 137000 mls on,fsh, the cam belt was done 126000, yesterday while the car was idling, the bottom crank pulley came adrift causing the belt to come off, will this have caused much damage to the engine,, guy looked at it today and he reckons the pulley was not properly torqued, thats the reason its came adrift,, with full s/history, will i have a chance contacting the garage that fitted this belt.

It could, not will, could, have damaged the crankshaft nose. A reliable mechanic with VAG TDi experience or good (sharp focus, and correct exposure) digital photos are what you need.

I'm struggling to see why the bottom pulley coming off would cause the bet to come off? There is a guide on the tensioner plus the covers should keep the belt running true. The pulley and gear are separate items, if the gear come loose I would agree with the above but then that wouldn't be undone to do a cambelt.

Hi again regarding the pulley,, the pulley and the gear are still bolted together with 4 allen bolt,, there is no bolt to be found for the bottom crank,, i have got the mechanic, {who has the majority of taxi servicing work in west lothian} coming on wednesday,, he quoted 240 pound to put it back and get it sorted,,, contacted the garage who did the belt less than 12000 mls ago, but they are not interested,, d+g autos in rumbling well in dunfermline,,so dont go near them.the car is far too good to scrap/break. the only thing breaking is my heart at the cost, for the sake of a bolt not been properly torqued up.
