Hankook W310 215/60 R16 winters

Featured Replies

Noticed that Camskill have the Hankooks back in stock at the very competitive £75.60 + £2.99 P&P. If you got them from mytyres then your looking at an eye watering £123.50 :o

Hi Tim

Thanks for info. My moons should be arriving with Yorkie on Thursday (putting my delivery compensation towards the cost) and will be sorting out some winter tyre.

Not sure where to get them fitted

Now do they compare with say the Dunlops and Goodyears?

Yorkie has arrived with Pirellis on the Annapurnas

Cheers

Peter.

Hi Peter,

the Hankook's don't score quite as highly as the major brands you mentioned, however I think they will do the job required and at this price worth trying. Also helped my decision in that Hankook supply tyres to VW, Ford and others and if nothing else they look the part.

Re fitting of on-line tyres, ring round a few tyre places, most are happy to fit tyres acquired on-line; between £5 to £10 a corner is the norm.

Regards,

TP

The Hankook All Season tyres were very well thought of in last weeks AutoExpress Winter tyre test.

Peter, try Murt's at Hebden Bridge. Well established local firm who provide a really good service. About a mile outside Hebden on the road to Todmorden, on the left hand side.

so the £10 all in I got mine done for this morning was (as I suspected) a good deal then?

Indeed, good deal....I just paid £40 'for cash, mate' to my local garage to remove summers and fit all seasons and balance the new ones on my Hyundai. And, yes, I'll call the ones that came off ' summers', if that's OK.

LOL, actually I just realised you may be quoting rates for putting tyres on to your alloys. Mine was a straight swap of allyw with summers for steelies already fitted with winters. Normally I'd do it myself but they were already changing the spare back off after I got a puncture repaired so I decided just to go for it.

Ah - that's a bit more what I'd have expected. That swap I referred to was on my other car which had 'summer' tyres on from new and I'll keep the 'all seasons' on permanently now and keep the Hankook summers for a rainy day....... (no, that should read - a sunny day!) But I did, the other day, swap the steelies/winters over from the alloys/summers on the Yeti myself but in reality a tenner saves the hassle, I'd say. It was just that I cleaned and polished the alloys so had to get my overalls out and hands dirty anyway so just whipped the trolley jack out and swapped them. I also gave the hub flanges and wheel nuts and inside face of the alloys a thin coat of copper grease. There was some rust on the taper of hub when I took the alloys off. I'd imagine after a couple of years you might struggle to part them if the rust got a grip.

Yes I had that problem with my dad's fabia last winter, it took some force to get the wheel off. I had the same problem with an Octavia a few years back when I had a flat and had to resort to calling the RAC who promptly whacked it with a sledgehammer!! :wonder:

What stock do Oponeo.com have? Last time I looked there was plenty. And as you know, coz I said recently, their service was excellent.

You have so much choice and much better pricing for 16" wheels rather than 17". I have just bought 4 17" tyres for a complete changeover and the options were very limited. I stuck the 16" size into a number of different tyre places just for fun and it was a whole different ball game.

For my Yeti (which has 17" alloys currently) I'm being quoted £699 for a package with 16" steel rims and Dunlop Winter Sport tyres supplied fitted and balanced. Is this competitive?

I paid £190 for the wheels from a Skoda dealer and £107 each (fitted) for the Dunlops....but the tyres are gonna cost you more than that now for decent ones and the wheels may have gone up. Ring your Skoda dealer re. wheels and check online for current tyre prices (fitted) and compare. If the tyres in the package are one of those referred to and the wheels are proper Skoda ones, then £700 isn't exorbitant.

Just a thought but if the new wheels cost 190 then how much would a tyre fitting centre charge you to remove summer tyres and replace with winter tyre on your existing wheels? Depending on how long you keep your car might it not be more cost effective to just change the tyres autumn & spring rather than buying new wheels? I suspect the calculation becomes even more problematic if you buy 4 new alloys at approx 160 each!

A point to consider but £40 to swap tyres and balance. Multiplied by two = £80 a year. Plus the increased liklihood of damage to alloys every time they're swapped. In the scheme of things, the cost of the steel wheels isn't a fortune, so why go to the inconvenience of relying on the fitters to swap when I can just get the trolley jack out and change them in an hour (and clean, check and lightly copper grease the hubs at the same time)...?

Re. the latter point, why buy alloys for winter use? The salt and grit is half the reason for using steels....
