Decent wax that wont break the bank and will last for a bit?

Featured Replies

I used fk1000p on my alloys this morning. I was surprised at how easy it went on. Buffed off beutifully. Topped tyres off with chemical brothers trim gel. Wheels looking sweet now. Just need to do the rest of the car now ;)

Had a few hours to go out and play with the car today.

Started with the alloys and then washed the car, then started using the clay. I'd clayed the whole of the roof and the back half of the drivers side of the car, and didnt seem to be lifting that much dirt away (like i said earlier, the paint seems in decent condition as is). At that point i noticed the sky looking a bit gloomy, so decided to put the clay away and crack on with the rest of it.

Managed to get a coat of SRP on, followed by a coat of Colly 476 on the bodywork. Dressed all the exterior rubber and vinyl, polished the exhaust tip. I then used the Aqua Wax on the alloys, id have liked to try the Colly on them but didnt really have time to take the wheels off and do themn properyl, so just thought the Aqua Wax will suffice for a week or two.

Initial impressions of the Collinite 476 are pretty positive, It really does feel like sturdy stuff. All i would say is i found that i put it on a bit thick and there was quite a bit of "dusting" to deal with when buffing off. I also found it quite difficult to get off initially, having only left it to settle for 5-10mins. As a result of this i did the rest of the car "Wax on, wax off" style to quote Mr Miyagi, which seemed to work much better.

In terms of the finish, on my black paint its about the same shine and depth as the Aqua Wax produced, but as i say it feels much more durable and smoother to the touch, so im happy with that.

As yet, it hasnt rained or anything, so im hoping to get back out tomorrow and clean out the car interior and engine bay, so will try and get another coat of wax on then also. I would try later on tonight but think SWMBO might set about me with a rolling pin if i suggest it!

Cheers

Oh, as an aside, can soiled clay (i.e. having been used on the car bodywork once) be used on alloys? Also, ive read some comments that suggest it can be used on window glass, is that correct?

Cheers

I've clayed all my glass before. Works well on the rear screen which suffers worse from contaminants.

Point taken but you know what I mean? B) I'd done my alloys last weekend & the rest of the car yesterday. The alloys cleaned up really easy yestreday.

no i don't know what you mean by easy off...is it you local slang or something,

i've done my alloys and bodywork too, not quite as shiny as meguairs but megs dont last

i've still got a bottle of meg's wax left, can i use it over the collite, or would it ger rid of the collinite if aplying on top
