Felicia stereo wiring advice (for a clueless woman!)

Featured Replies

Hi, this is my first post, and it's a bit complicated so please bear with me.

I am trying to help my Dad out. He has asked me to try and find a part for his R reg Felicia, and the problem is that I neither drive (!) nor know anything about cars, and he has dementia which affects his memory and speech, meaning he can't really explain what it is that he is after (although he would know how to fix it if he had the parts)

Please excuse my 'layman's terms' as my technical knowledge is a bit rubbish.

Basically he was trying to fix the stereo after a problem with the speakers. The stereo is (I believe) the factory fitted radio cassette player, a Blaupunkt ACR. He decided to not disconnect the battery, while tampering, and managed to touch two wires together, which resulted in a car full of smoke, burnt fingers and a tangle of melted wires. He disconnected the wiring harness from the fusebox, and all the wiring is obviously ruined.

We have trailed breakers yards so he can look for the wiring harness, but to no avail. When I search the internet for this, it brings up products with ISO connectors (which means nothing to me) and says that these connectors are for 'aftermarket stereos'.

So my question is would one of these products do the job, or something else? I have emailed various breakers yards asking for the 'wiring loom for an R reg Felicia' but no-one seems to know what I mean. Dad has described it (best he can, bless him) as the wires and connectors that go from stereo to fusebox. Am I asking for the right thing?!

Sorry if this post is a bit vague, and long-winded!! I just really want to help him out!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

Hope this is of some help :)

you are after the correct item but sadly you can't get them from skoda anymore so you will need to get it from a breaker.. The radio loom is separate from the speaker loom if I recall, I'll dig about in my wiring stash when I get home( away working again :wonder: ) and see what I can find..

An ISO connector is a standard. What the products you have found will do is to connect a car which has an ISO (standard) stereo connection to an aftermarket one such as Sony, Kenwood, etc. I don't know if the Felicia originally comes with ISO wiring; if it does then you will still probably need one to allow you to connect your new stereo to the car. I've only ever ripped Felicia stereo wiring out, but if your dad removed the burnt wiring easily enough back to the fuse box then replacing it shouldn't be too difficult once you have a secondhand one.

ISO connectors look like the ones pictured on this page:

Do the ones he's removed look the same?

If you ask for the wiring loom, most people would think you mean the wiring for the entire car, rather than just for the stereo itself. Lots of people selling secondhand car bits are ignorant gits too, so it may just be a case of finding the right person; if someone is breaking a Felicia on here I'm sure they'd be able to help out, if it is just a separate loom. If not then it is a bit more complex, although you only really need to supply power and an earth to it to get it to work, but if you're asking the question then I think it's safe to assume (no offence) that it's beyond your capabilities.

Abi, we all understood your question, so the problem is maybe with the people you've been asking.

Try asking the breakers again, and make it clear that you're looking for the stereo loom from fusebox to head unit and not the whole car one.

Thank you everybody, I appreciate you all taking the time to reply and have taken all your advice on board. I shall continue to ask around breakers yards and see what I can find.

You've all been very kind :)
