problems with revs and turbo

Featured Replies

hey guys, having problems with the car, ive noticed that once the car hits 3500rpm the turbo cuts out no matter what gear i hit the 3500rpm in, i dont think its mechanical because if i turn the engine off and back on again the turbo comes to life again and the turbo was only changed 3 years ago in 2008 by looking at old receipts from garages etc. is it some kind of sensor or electronic problem? sorry forget to say its a Vrs

Start with a code scan and look for boost deviation or over boost condition. You could also try disconnecting the MAF and see if the turbo then keeps going beyond 3,500 RPM, if it does, MAF is faulty.

Other suspects, N75 valve, boost pressure sensor (on inter-cooler), sticking VNT.

ive had it scanned and it didnt show anything up, have disconnected MAF sensor, when it was off the car ran like a bag of ****e and wudnt even go anywhere near 3500rpm but once it was reconnected the car was alittle nippier but still wont go over 3500rpm without cutting the turbo off.

Might need to start looking at fueling issues, when was the main fuel filter last changed?

Did you try the turbo cleaner i suggested Nick? I think sticking vnt

Was it scanned with VCDS or the dealer tool or a generic OBD scanner?

It could be that a generic scanner isn't picking up the code. Mind you saying that I had the ECP light come in in SWMBOs Leon without logging a code, which was rather annoying.

hia guys im having the the same problem but the turbo used to whistle but no sounds different but have a dtc code p1556 that is the charge pressure control that giving negative deviation and been told to change the sensor in inter cooler but will my turbo need changing as it a new 1 from skoda all boost pipe are on please help

Same thing happened to me, im 100% sure it will be one of your boost pipes. mine was due to a split in one and it caused the same problem, changed the pipe and now it never dies

Negative deviation means underboost rather than overboost which is typically what you get with sticky vanes.

It could be a sensor, or the vanes in the turbo are sticking in the position they take at high revs, or there is a problem with the valve/actuator that controls the vanes, or you have a boost leak.

The Ross Tech Wiki suggests it is not a sensor though.http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17964/P1556/005462
