From Red to Blue

Featured Replies

I ordered my first Yeti - a 170bhp diesel 4x4 Elegance in solid red with pretty much all the (then available) options - at the very beginning of February this year. It soon became apparent that delivery was going to be delayed, as the estimated handover date slipped from May, to June, to July, to August, and then to September. Even in late September nobody seemed to be able to say with any confidence when I'd have the keys so I cancelled the order. I wondered about a nearly-new Audi A6 or A4 Allroad, or a Superb Estate 4x4 instead but in the end tracked down a pre-registered Yeti 170bhp diesel 4x4 Elegance in Aqua Blue, with panoramic sunroof, heated front screen, 3-spoke steering wheel and rough road pack for a very good price. The dealer is fitting a Kenwood DNX520VBT for me as, apparently, the Columbus unit is in short supply and/or difficult to retrofit.

Anyway, although the 8 month (and counting) delay on the first one was hugely frustrating I'm pleased to be getting a Yeti at last: I collect it from South Ruislip this Friday afternoon and then spend the next 6 hours or so driving it back home to Northumberland. On Sunday it's booked into my local Kwik Fit for a set of Michelin Alpin winter tyres.

Did you need a second mortgage for the alpins?

I don't even have a first mortgage! ;)

Well done in sourcing your Yeti. I wish you many hours of enjoyable driving.

There seems no rhyme or reason to any system Skoda have in accepting orders and building. I ordered in mid March, probably about 6 weeks after you, and am waiting delivery..... I hope! I'm told she was built in week 40, October 6th. So I waited over 28 weeks. The word on this site is hopefully about 3 weeks after for delivery/collection from dealers. Since build week I am struggling to get any info from the salesman. Hasn't replied to my emails... so I guess a telephone call is coming on! Before the end of September I was a Code 20 - yet you ordered 6 weeks earlier than me. Surely you should have been code 20 well before me? I realise that choice of options can impact on build date. I went for most, like you, including panoramic roof. The main difference is, I assume, you added a satnav to your order? I didn't, but surely that wouldn't delay things this long!

Still thinking about winter tyres! Wish I was driving mine on Friday!!

Another Yeti in Northumberland, what part are you in? We are home to the Yeti up here, hundreds of them, well quite a few anyway. Having driven mine through last winter I can confirm it is ideal for this part of the world.

I am hugely jealous of the heated front screen. This was not an option when I chose mine and is the one option I wish I had. Enjoy

Well done. My Alpins (16 rim size) will soon be fitted for their second winter. A good choice all round!

On the outskirts of Berwick.

That explains a lot!! The dealer I'm using is in Northumberland! While I am hugely excited/frustrated as each day drags as I'm nearly past the post the dealer seems oblivious. If he's supplying lots in the area the excitement has gone perhaps!

I'm getting the heated front screen too!!!

Is that the English half or the Scottish half? :giggle:

(For those who don't know their history of the NE Berwick has been part of both countries over the centuries and some inhabitants claim to be solidly Scottish and others claim to be solidly English. My sons rugby coach is from Berwick, has a Scottish accent but is vehemently English.)

My Yeti is also Aqua Blus and it is ideal for hiding the dirt. Enjoy your car, as I said before it is ideal for up here.

The Columbus is very easy to retro fit. about 5-10 minutes. The Kenwood I would expect to take longer. OEM retrofits who aren't too far away from you specialise in doing exactly that. (PS got funny messages about malware when I looked at the site - not had that before.)

Glad you got yourself sorted in the end and came back to the Yeti. You will not regret it.emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Well, I collected my Yeti from the ever-helpful Jason at Willis Skoda in South Ruislip at 13:30 yesterday, and in the seven hours it took me to drive home to Northumberland enjoyed the car's refined nature and its very willing engine, which returned an average of 53 mpg despite being straight out of the box. Less enjoyable is the Kenwood sat nav, which has a map colour scheme which wouldn't look out of place on a 1977 Buzzcocks picture sleeve (I should know: I have several) and whose control button illumination constantly scrolls through the colours of the rainbow, giving the effect of driving Blackpool illuminations. I expect the latter, at least, can be fixed in the settings menu which I will get to grips with today.

I live in Northumberland and bought Scarlet from a dealer in Co Durham. We might pass in opposite directions going to our dealers!
