Johann,

:giggle: Thankfully my mum taught me proper and I don't use words like "innit" or such like, yet I love words like compacious which don't exist.

Way to go man!

Fred

Here goes, I think:

One press: lock, deadlock, interior monitoring for the alarm, don't tow

Two presses: lock, no deadlock, no interior monitoring for the alarm, don't tow

One press AND first press the B pillar button: lock, deadlock, no interior monitoring for the alarm, OK to tow

Two presses AND first press that button: lock, no deadlock, no interior monitoring for the alarm, OK to tow

it would probably make more sense in a table.

The warning message on the dash means: "watch out. next time you lock the car, the deadlocks will engage if you only press once". it is a reminder that two presses isn't saved, but that you have to do it every time you lock the car.

clear as mud.

Clear, but... just for sure.

To get the mirrors folding you need a continuos 2 second press. Do you need after that the second press for normal locking?

Yes, it is the same way that you close the windows from the LOCK button on the fob. One normal press to lock the doors and then another press and hold (for two seconds) to fold the mirrors and close the windows and sunroof.

Only rarely, and with some trepidation, would I disagree with an acknowledged expert but for window closure I just press lock once and hold it it seems to work to give a shut and deadlocked car.

I found this topic 2 days ago whilst looking for info on deadlocks which comes up on my display too when switching off the engine. Just glad there is nothing wrong and now ignore it. :)

:giggle: Bless. I stand corrected.... When I do close my windows this way I normall do as I explained but have not, as you suggest, done it with just one click! Interesting. You learn something new every day! I normally don't close the windows this way because if the sunroof is already shut doing so it starts to close the internal blind instead (for as long as you hold the button). And I don't like the blind as I want the :sun:! This is also the reason why I don't have the "Auto close when detecting rain" feature set as this closes the blind every night!!!

I think we're all missing the point here. It's a safety warning so you don't completely lock the car with the kids or the dog in when you go to pay for your fuel, for instance. With just 1 click, all the alarm functions & deadlocks are set, but you cannot open the door from the inside to escape in an emergency. If you have to lock anyone in the car for some reason, you double click the remote which locks the car & sets the alarm but doesn't set the deadlocks & disables the alarm interior scanning so the alarm doesn't go off due to the people moving around inside. A friend of mine had her car stolen off a forecourt with her baby in the back seat while she paid for fuel. When the thieves saw the baby, they dumped the baby on the pavement 200 yards away & the BMW was never seen again. Nice world we live in!

  • 2 months later...

Car is new with less than 100 miles on the clock but I noticed this message last night. I'd just set auto locking and unlocking on the MFD.

When I pull key out it unlocks as says check deadlocks, I'm thinking it may always say this but with auto unlocking not set (default?) it says as you open door so you don't see it as not generally in direction of the MFD.

Anyway I took manual + MFD text as bad translation saying text means deadlocks will be active on lock.

Exactly as stated by everyone above... :giggle:

I've never tried it, but if the door locking is disabled, will this message still show?
