the one im interested in is the 1.6 fsi engine

is there any common problems or any worrying issues with these cars

The Octavia car itself is fantastic, loads of space, great road presence, and good quality all round. I'm on my 2nd Octavia now, the first being a company car, which was an 2.0 PD L&K, and then I opted out and bought my own 2.0 CR VRS.

Personnally, I would question whether the 1.6 would be a little under powered? But I have had 2.0 diesels for about the last 8 years. Only mention it because we have just changed my mrs' 1.6 petrol Astra for a 1.8 as it was under powered, and the Octavia is a bigger car than an Astra.

Coupled with the 0.0% vat and 0.0% interest finnce deals, you will struggle to find more car for your money.

When I bought my first Octavia I drove both the 1.6FSi and the 1.9TDi. The compared to the 1.9TDi the 1.6FSi felt distinctly sluggish. Don't know about economy on the 1.6 but my 1.9 diesel averaged 51 mpg over the 3 years I had it.

Try out the 1.9 diesel before you go for the 1.6 petrol.

I find the 1.6FSi adequately powerful for my needs, the only time it struggles slightly is uphill with a fully loaded boot and four people onboard.

As for economy, according to the maxidot I average between 40 - 42mpg for my usual mix of urban and motorway driving. Best I have ever seen was 62mpg (which I have never been able to repeat!).

Do be aware that there is also an older 1.6 petrol fitted in some Octavia's, the 1.6MPi

I drive the latest Octavia Scout with the DSG box, probably at the top end of the Skoda price range, but so far it is the perfect car for my needs, plenty of room, higher ride height,4 x 4 for the winter, for me the best pound for pound all round car on the market today.
