Hazard lights under hard braking enabled

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if it is possible on a 56 plate Octavia vRS to Enable Hazard lights under hard braking? If so, can you point me in the right direction for coding? Haven't got it yet, but will be getting the VCDS.

Is this at all possible on the original Fabias? I'm guessing the convenience unit is prob to old though?

Does this make the Hazards flash or the Brake lighs flash?

I had someone switch this on, but my hazards don't come on when braking hard. I can't tell if the brake Lighes themselves are flashing though

AIUI you need to be braking hard enough for the ABS to kick in for the hazards to flash, the brake lights flashing is something that is available on newer CANBUS equipped cars, not sure if this can be done on older cars?

Personally I have enables the brake lights to flash as well as I do a LOT of motorway mileage and hazard light being flashed is used by many to warn others that the traffic has suddenly slowed right down, so those who are paying attention (about 50% :giggle: ) will lift off and start braking gently, whereas if I saw brake lights flashing in front of me then I would read that as a car doing an emergency stop.

how do you enable the brake light flashing? (presume this would work on a Yeti too)

I tested by doing about 30 then slamming on, maybe that isn't enough for it then. I will give it a good jam on later and try.

Thanks Gizmo68!

It is in VCDS, can't remember exactly where but it was close to the the box to tick for the hazard warning lights to flash, yes you can do it on a Yeti as well

I have only had my ABS kick in once so I do not know for sure it works ...as I was watching the road :giggle:

Ideal time to check is in the snow ... if you do not have winter tyres fitted, this will be easier in the dark as you will be able to see the reflection of the brake lights easier.

Came off the M6 onto the slip road, nothing in front, nothing behind, Slammed on, hazards kicked in :D

For a split second I thought, ok, how do they switch off? I had to press the Hazard Light Button

So, yes, it does work. Thanks peoples.

Anyone know of any other cool stuff to switch on? I tried for cornering lights, but my central electrics controller only seems to have 20 bytes, so byte 23 for cornering lights seem to be out of reach

cheers, will not have a look tonight, just got the screaming toddler pacified and into bed so it is wine o clock not time for VCDS :wonder:

Sorry to revive a thread, but the criteria for the hazard or brake flash are either or both of the following:

- ABS operates for more than 2 seconds

- Deceleration exceeds 7ms^2 (possibly for a time period but not sure)

...and of course if the ECU's "you've been in an accident" flag is set then your hazards will come on.

I can't link this to a source as it was just noted in my 'interesting VW stuff file'.
