Tow bars on VRS Hatchback

Featured Replies

Hi People of Skoda land. Just after abit of advice and oppinions on whats the best Towbar to be gettibg for nw VRS..??

It has parking sensors so will need to be removable, on need single electrics as will be only towing a car trailer and small camping trailer. What one will be best and which one fitts in to the spare wheel well cut out when not in use??..

Should i fit it myself of get a pro to do it?.. :o

Many thanks Rich

Welcome to the club dude. I am also trying to sort the same for my new one, as I understand it the standard skoda one that firs in the spare wheel thing is the westfalia one. I am after a detachable too to lug about a single motorbike trailer. General consensus seems to be go to a good specialist as most main dealers tend to use them and outsource it anyway. for your reversing censors etc the idea is the car gets coded after so that it can recognise a trailer is plugged in and it will sort that and the traction control is adjusted while towing accordingly too.

There must be a good 50 threads in Octavia II just on this I know I have started 2 or 3 myself  search detachable tow bar been a few up very recently dude will find a ton of info in there.

bosal make high quality tow bars, but its the fitters i would be more concerned about. i worked in the motor spares for 9 years and heard alot of bad stories about badly fitted tow bars.

I was looking at a Witter or Westfalia detachable one on the bay, approx' £185 posted with single electrics. If you are DIY minded head over to octavia-vrs.com and follow the comprehensive guide from our very own vRStu.

I have a fixed witter bar, very good quality, and exceptionally easy to fit, and no bumper cut. Plus there are a couple of websites which make the wiring a doddle. cost, and having looked at the amount of trim removal for a dedicated wiring kit, I went down the bypass relay route. Unless your a perfectionist, or towing all the time, you won't notice the difference imho..

We had a Westfalia removeable fitted last year, very happy with it and the install is all coded into the car

Cheers

I bought a Westfalia as I thought it would fit the spare wheel tray cutout as they supply Skoda. It didn't, but great towbar.

Bought it from PF Jones online with wiring kit.

The bar is easy to fit, it is the electrics you need to be careful with due to the CANBUS system. you must at least use a bypass relay, and the brake light has to connect to the high level brake light feed. I used a wiring kit - expensive, but after programming via VCDS (thanks to a Briskoda member) I have a fully integrated towbar for less than half the cost of Skoda dealer and even my local specialist.

That guide is very good but lists a Bosal 033-494 towbar that according to all suppliers on the internet does not fit the VRS? But the Bosal fitting instructions do not say if it does or doesnt?

Does anybody know if a Bosal 033-494 will fit a 2007 VRS hatch?

I have the Witter detachable fitted to my Scout, great tow bar, looks neat and it is very easy to fit and remove. There were some pictures of this bar fitted to a vRS on here but there are so many tow bar threads I can't find them...

Anyhow here it is on my Scout...

I have the Skoda detachable towbar fitted to my VRS. Really happy with it, you can't see any of the bracket when its not in use and the electrics pop up behind the bumper. The towbar fits in the spare wheel when not in use.
