2006 VRS recall notices just announced - ECU and ignition coils

I think this thread highlights just how many cars are out there that require or could benefit from this recall (& others). When cars are sold new owners generally don't register their cars details with their local dealership as they feel there is no point or don't think to, however this thread shows how worthwhile it is as my dealer called ME and invited me to bring my car in to have this campaign carried out. Obviously the dealerships should be checking cars for outstanding work when they come in for servicing, but once they get past 3 there is a big drop off in the number of cars that go back to the dealers for routine maintenance so this would go undetected.

I'd recommend that all owners register their cars with their local dealership, nothing to lose so may as well do it - who'd have thought that dealerships would actively invite owners to bring their 5 year old cars in for some free work?

Wonder how many cars are out there who's owners will never have any idea about this?

Had all four coil packs replaced today at Simpsons Preston, running great. What caring staff, they told me my rear washers were not working and they could rectify the problem for the small fee of £44.98, I politely declined and got a pin out when i got home........ saved myself almost £45

Sounds familiar! (See up a few posts)

What year is your car?mine is a 57reg and was told it is ok but after reading your post not so sure.the car drives spot on but does seem to have a very very small missfire on idle.

Mine is a 2006(06).....I'm not feeling any difference in my car but I have had a coilpack go on a TFSI engine before so this I suppose gives me peace of mind if nothing else

Just dragging this back up from the grave as some owners may still not be aware. I booked into Lightcliffe in Warrington to have the cambelt waterpump changed today and they informed me mine (06)reg needs to have the coilpacks changed. Heading back tomorrow for them to change through the recall.

Had the EPC and CEL lights come on in December 2012 on my 56 plate Octavia VRS with only 29000 miles on it! Went to the local Skoda Dealer (West End Garage) in Edinburgh. Diagnosed as fault P0601, requiring a new ECU. Asked them about the 24k5 field campaign, got fobbed off saying if the car needed an update it would say so (as it seems most dealers do to owners), also asked if it was normal for an ECU to fail at such low mileage (again they didn't bat an eyelid).

Looked through Briskoda, and saw something about a dealer in Ayr.

Contacted Ingram's at Ayr, and spoke to Tom in servicing who was very helpful and actually listened to me. Took the car down the next day, they fixed it while I waited. £111 including 2 litres of oil (oops!). A lot cheaper than a new ECU. They did say that it wasn't the 24k5 update though.

It just shows that some dealers are willing to use their experience rather than just do the bare minimum of diagnosis, to the detriment of the owners pocket!
