Key fob not working for central locking

Featured Replies

Ok sure its something simple but hopefully you will give me the quick ref guide to fixing

Never worked since buying the car and both keys open the car manually and both start the car and both lights show when pressing - everything in 1 piece when seperating key.

Advice please :)

Only other thing to add - may not be related but the wires to where the autochange was has some cut wires (large brown one exposed) have secured them but not had chance to confirm current or if effecting anything - put my stereo in now so no oe and works fine

No error codes on vag.com other than changer fault (poss due to removed?)

Thanks in advance

Duncan

It sounds like either the transmitter or the receiver isn't working. Try squatting just outside the driver's door holding the key against your head. If it still doesn't work, that pretty much confirms my suspicions. Is the loss of remote locking linked in time to the stereo work?

Well it never worked when I got the car - I never touched the cd changer that was already missing. Oe stereo worked fine also befroe swapping but during all of this the key fob has never worked.

May try the head trick in a sec :D

Thx again

Ok can confirm the squat and head trick makes no difference

I also cant confirm if the problem started at the same time as them butchering the cd autochanger out

CD changer shouldn't have any effect on the central locking.

It's much more likely that you have a faulty door lock microswitch or a problem with the central convenience module which controls the central locking.

Ok, we've ruled out a faulty key aerial (that was what the head trick was for).

Since the central locking seems to work ok off the door lock, I don't think it's likely to be the lock switches, door wiring the convenience module. This seems to leave the car aerial (near the rear mirror, front courtesy light(s) and sunroof switch if fitted) and wiring from it to the CM.

My thought about the wiring was that if it had been hacked about during the stereo work, maybe a wire got broken or disconnected.

"Ok, we've ruled out a faulty key aerial (that was what the head trick was for)".???????????????????

The key arial in around the ignition barrel. The head thing sometimes works by using your head as an amp.

First thing to do is take the remote to a locksmith and ask him to test the remote for a signal (we dont charge for this).

If there's no signal, ask him to change the battery. If he then gets a signal, try the remote on the car.

You may need to re-sync.

If no signal, buy a new remote.

You've got to go thru this procedure first. Its gonna cost you may-be £4 for the locky to put a battery in the remote.
