The noises! Lets get them fixed.

Featured Replies

Hi all, a while ago I posted saying about a squeak I had from the rear. As I was about to buy the rear beam bushes I noticed that when I had my car fully weighted (4 up with luggage) it didn't squeak. soon as I took the weight away it came back. I also notice it more when the hand brake is on.

Is this a shock, spring, top mount or something else? It is coming from the nearside rear.

Second sound. For a while now there has been a rubbing sound coming from the left wheel. Every time I turn left it sounds like when your brakes corrode after a wash and its that sound as you drive off. My dad doesn't think it is CV because it isn't a clicking sound. I can hear it whilst I drive straight but I notice it more when I turn left.

When my rear suspension was squeaking i found that i had a broken spring when i took it for an MOT it was broken right at the bottom so it wasn't obvious when I was looking.

How did it break? just snap or what? Would the car sit lower on that side?

How much was the spring?

Springs snapping are a common problem with the VRS. Beware you can only get the correct replacement springs (£66ish each)from a VAG main dealer or TPS. Some motor factors list springs for a VRS, but I guarantee they'll be wrong.

The noise you describe from the front sounds like a dying wheel bearing.

+1 there

for the price of rear busges and really how fairly easily they can be changed I would do them and see.

Might be the shocks too are shot. because the wheels turning normally takes the movement out of the setup when you put them on it removes the easiest way out so puts extra stress on the other parts. If that makes sense so in theory it could be any moving part in the rear suspension.

best bet is as said the bushes of springs.

There were no signs apart from the squeaking that the spring was broken. Got my springs from the local motor factors, one of the companies are specializing in making springs for high performance cars inc the vrs.

If I am going new springs would it be worth getting a set of eibach lowering springs? I want to close the arch gap a bit. How much do wheel bearings cost? Would it be worth doing both at the same time? What sort of cost are they and can I do it myself?

Bearings not really, A good press is needed. they are £25 approx each iirc

I think you might need to do some looking about for the Eiback springs as iirc again there is a few that suggest not to get them as they are not designed for the car and were proper crap. Dangerouse springs to mind?
