Babs' Mk1 Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Well... about time I posted this.

Picked this up a few weeks ago, 05 plate, 38,000 on the clock, FSH, 1 owner from new :)

Now, it's not been cherished, but it's in decent condition. Few little bits and pieces need doing, like it's had it's driver's wing mirror taken off (via the driver's window, leaving scratches), and there's a few chips/scratches, the interior is mint aside from a slightly collapsed drivers lower bolster, the faces of the wheels are decent, but the backs are quite bad and the previous owners must have loved the automatic car wash - it's swirl tastic! Oh, and a front wheel bearing is gone so will be doing that shortly!

Day after I bought it, I got cruise control fitted at Awesome - love it!

Overall, I'm happy with it. Plans are the usual :)

Replace wing mirror and glass, either new seat or get the current one repaired. Then a full correction detail!

Probably intake, FMIC, remap, exhaust, rear-ARB and polybushes all round. Might go down the double-DIN touchscreen route like my last one... We'll see what happens, suspension and wheel-wise. But I'm sure people that know me will know I like things low... B)

  • Wow... it's been a while, but finally got the foam fitted! Not had a sit in yet as I've cleaned and conditioned the leather throughout but I'm never doing it again! My fingers are in agony :(

  • Well, got my car back from Simpsons yesterday after some more warranty paint work; the hatch was starting the rust just below the handle. To my surprise they've painted the entire hatch! So as well a

Hi Babs,

You say that you've had cruise control retro-fitted to your car, can you tell me how much it cost and what sort of a job it was to fit it or did you have to get someone to do that, also wheere did you get the unit from?

I look forward to hearing from you.

p.s. I'm a newbie so be gentle with me

It was at Awesome GTI in Irlam, £120 fitted - they fit a brand new OEM cruise control stalk, then wire to the ECU. 1-2 hours fitting time :)

Don't know Babs, but I somehow took it for granted that it would be black

Great project base though - keep us posted

Hi babs, thanks for the reply, it's certainly a job I would like to have done and that doesn't seem a bad price at all, by the way your motor looks great in the photo's.

Again many thanks

Ian

Cheers :)

It's quite an easy job for someone who knows the cars, but Irlam might not be too far from you (depending on where in North Wales you are)

Sounds like an ideal base to start with, 1owner from new/low milage. Now make it LOW

Brimma's wrong, love that colour, my first Octy was that colour.

I didn't say I didn't like it - I wrongly assumed it would have been a black one

My first 03 plate Skoda was a red vRS estate

I hate black cars!

Well.... they look nice, I just hate cleaning them!

Looks tidy mate! Nice Redrow house too . :)

03? Noob :giggle:

I was dead set on having another red one til someone pointed out that red yetis look like Postman Pat's van!!

That would be awesome, get one all stickered up!

What ever happened to the VR6?

You got a couple a pictures of it before you let it go??, cuz that last thing I knew of it you'd lowerd it, got some, um.. were they mk4 cab wheels, or Bora or summat like that?? and ditched the quad lamps.

That's pretty much it Rob! They were Bora Highline and Beetle option wheels, fairly rare in the UK. We'd bought a house, doubled my commute and I couldn't afford 22MPG any more :(

This was it before I sold it (the pic used in the advert), had all rust sorted, and was back on refurbed standard BBS wheels:

And this is it on the Longbeach wheels:

Pretty Golf... :) (I'm developing a real soft spot for mk3's)

Think it needed spacers on the rear though... Such a subtle motor, real shame about the mpg'bess.

(thinks...., and mutters 5x100 under his breath)..

Wait, hang on.. are we gonna see those wheels "Re-appear" at some point in the near future?

  • Author

Nope, They were the first thing to go! Got my money back, all things considered so I was happy with that. The biggest thing was needing cash for the house to be honest. I miss it, loved the noise!

I did have 20mm spacers on the back, then destroyed the tyres

With the arches rolled, it would have been fine!

Edit: although I have found a Vento VR6 for sale on eBay...

Small update!

Past few months I've got the glass and driver's mirror sorted, and the front wheel bearing sorted too.

And... that's it! Not sure what I'm gonna do with it next, when funds allow (wedding this year, so have to watch the pennies!)
