Dipstick!

Featured Replies

As above, shards of orange plastic have fallen off and have crumbled off the remaining disptick- any suggestions? Is there anything a bit sturdier in metal perhaps, and no not the £33 available from Awesome, maximum of a tenner.. TIA

Does "Manchester Model Shop" still exist? If so, go in there, buy a pack of Milliput for about £4, and make your own handle!

That's true..Loads fell off, is there any chance that it will kill the engine? I can't imagine it will do it any good :dull:

Is this the handle or the tube?

ebay... think they used to be around £5 or £10

Is this the handle or the tube?

Both simultaneously :S

My handle was starting to go so I ordered a new one from VAG about one month ago. I think on ebay they were/are 10p cheaper. Bloke at the VW dealer said they don't sell many!

The same thing happened on my Pug 405. Am I cursed? probably checking the oil too offen!

I did wonder if the clag on the oil pickup pipe that people find, was this broken down plastic?

Part number for 1.8T engine - 06A 115 611 Q - about £7 incl VAT.

The dipstick tube gets brittle with age from the heat of the engine, and any slight movement will cause it to break(normally when removing the metal bracket it clips to attached to the inlet manifold).

Also the inner dipstick loses it's locating lugs.

It is common actually, certainly on higher milage cars.

Get the parts from VW or Skoda the are cheap enough. and they did not do a metal one.

This thread has all the part numbers on it...

Mine fell apart a few weeks ago and just recently had problems with low oil pressure ( Another oil pressure problem thread) don't know if the two things are related
