2001 Octavia MK1 Elegance

I apologise as this has been covered a good few times before, but I'm tripping at the first hurdle. Am trying to remove the control panel from the door to do a little cosmetic repair, but can't seem to remove the first part from the handle, the insert bit that is behind the handle (feels a little rubbery). I can't seem to find a way to prise it out without slight damage of the plastic on the handle.

Is it supposed to be pulled out? (seated with prongs) or should it somehow slide out.

Yes it pulls out - it's pretty stiff to get out but it sounds like you're doing the right ting!

Can it be done by hand or does it need to be prised out?

I carefully prised it out with a screwdriver.
