Spare wheel

Featured Replies

I'm thinking about getting a set of winter wheels, so I've just had a look at the spare, which is a steely, to see what size winters to get, and I've been side tracked.

The spare is a full size 15" steely shod with a "Contipremiumcontact2" tyre, same as the alloys, although they are 16".

My query is, the spare steely has those big yellow stickers on it saying it is limited to 50 MPH. Is this correct, as it is a full size wheel, and not a space saver?

You thoughts are appreciated.

I just don't get why Skoda put those stickers on either, looks like a proper wheel and tyre to me. To find out the best size then pop your car's details into www.mytyres.co.uk and they will tell you what you need. My dad ordered winters from them for his furby and they fit just fine.

The reason for the stickers is because you are running one tyre of completely different profile/diameter/width to the other 3.

If you bought another 3, so that all are 4 are the same size then the 50mph sticker will not apply, however running it in conjunction with your 16" wheel it does

Thanks Gizmo, I never thought of it like that, makes sense.

Back to looking at winters now. I'll have a look at mytyres, thanks.

aha, which is presumably why on the octavia thye don't (or didn't three years ago) have stickers, the spare must be the same size as the originals just on a steel wheel rather than an alloy.

That was certainly true on my MKI Octavia Elegance

yeah it was the same on my MkI and MkII octavias but I never used the spares. It was only when I got the Yeti that I got a puncture (after 700 miles).

:wonder:

The Mk1 Fabia vRS has exactly the same size and diameter wheel/tyre as a spare than is on the other 4 wheels. It has a 80Kph/50mph sticker on it. The only difference is it's a uni-directional tyre (W speed rated Michelin Pilot Premacy) fitted to a steel wheel.
