Blown Turbo?

Featured Replies

Not an Octavia but a Polo GT.

Mate was giving it some beans out of the toll booths on the M6 the other day and he heard a pop and an escape of air. He lost all drive and coasted to the hard shoulder. VW Assistance came out and couldn't see any popped hoses and couldn't get the car restarted. He got towed home and phone the mobile mechanic we have used for years. He comes out and he is stumped as to why it wont start either (no fault codes logged).

Finally he takes the pipe off the bottom of the intercooler and he gets coated in about 2 litres of oil (overalls and jumper in the bin!). The car now starts. He says that the turbo has gone but has never seen one go and dump a load of oil in the intercooler pipe..

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks.

Ive seen this on classic volvos that use the renault dci engine, they have garret turbo's and when they fail it dumps most of engine oil into bottom of intercooler,

Its okay unless its sucked any into engine and hydroliced it and bent rods
