Banging over small bumps in road from front

Featured Replies

I think it's the front and I think it's the left, although you can never be 100% sure when driving along.

When the front wheels drop into even a small dip there is a banging noise, which suggests it's the front.

The rear has had new struts and bumpstops, so I think that's probably fine.

The steering is a bit vague, but then it's been like that for ages, so I can't really be sure if it's related or not.

Anyway, I'm just curious as to what people are thinking might be options to look at.

So far I've got wishbone bushes and drop links, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

Could also be roll bar bushes where the roll bar is attached to the sub frame

You talking about the front suspension still. If so ARB bushes are always one part that used to go on the MK I, but I've not heard of them being an issue on the MK II as yet. Then again, it's not like I do a huge amount on here these days,

Could it be the strut top bearings.

Just a follow up here, it was the drop link on the front passenger side.

Has anybody any opinions on the quality of Lemforder parts and thoughts on whether replacing just the failed one is fine, or if I should do both at the same time?

Also just how easy/hard are they to do?

They look like two bolts holding them in to me, but you can never tell where it's going to become a pain.

If you are going to change a failed component then it is best practice to change the other side at the same time so both sides of the car feel and react the same and are not going to give you any nasty surprises.

Oddly i done mine today top bolt is fine bottom was a bit-ch !!! and oddly again mine on the left was knackered i had to end up cutting it off with a grinder at the bottom anyway job done today both sides

Cost me £115 for the whiteline kit

OEM ones are about £17 for two of them.

My knocking is still there i'm sure might need to replace front ARB bushes now :(

I was quoted £36 each for OEM, so went down the lemforder route (They make OEM from what I can tell anyway).

Knocking now gone and car feels much happier :)

Looks like it's an adjustable one for lowered cars.
