Noise after bearing replacement :(

Featured Replies

Hi,

I had my N/S/F wheel bearing replaced last week. I've noticed that sometimes when turning left I hear a metalic shuntering/ churning sound coming from the N/S/F side of the car. I am going to ring the garage but wondered if anybody had any idea what has gone wrong - fore warned is fore armed!

Cheers guys,

Jim

Outer drive shaft CV (Constant Velocity) joint failing.

Probably bearing cage collapsed and bearings rubbing against each other.

Replacement outer joint needed.

Or probably just bent the heatsheild so it's rubbing on the disc.

Little tweekage and it's sorted.

Thanks - lets hope its the latter!

The garage will be collecting the car soon to investigate.

If it turns out to be the CV, could this be something the garage has botched causing the failure? Should I be paying for any work in this case? there was absolutely no noise like this before the bearing was replaced last week.

Cheers,

It's doubtful to be honest, just hope they did the hub nut up correctly (50nm and 45 degrees), if they are over tightened they can clunk.

Tech1e was spot on! It did turn out to be a bent heat-shield - thank goodness.

Thanks for the replies :)
