Xenons Not Level?

Featured Replies

Right, I know they're supposed to self-level and all that, but with the nights getting darker much earlier I've found that 3 cars in 2 days have flashed me because they think my headlights are on, when really it's just my dipped xenons. Does anyone else find this or is it something that's wrong and that I should get checked out?

Cheers :)

If your car is still under warranty take it to the dealers and get them to check and adjust if required!

VAS or VCDS is required to set the self levelling into learn mode!

Unfortunately it's not still under warranty, it's just turned 4 years old :( Might speak to a few mechanics I know and see whether they can do anything for me.

Don't automatically assume there is anything wrong with your lights.

I have factory fit Xenon's which I know for a fact are aligned 100% accurately - yet I still get the odd flash from people.

Seems to be some people don't like the fact your lights are bright (and actually being useful) :)

If you get no luck with anyone with VCDS locally then I am in Burntwood and Hednesford on Friday 25th and possibly Saturday 26th and I will have my VCDS with me .

I have vcds if someone could point me how to reset them?

i'm assuming to reset them you would need VCDS and an MOT lightbox?

£56 at the dealers to set my lights i just laughed :giggle: 20 mins work!!

There is always the possibility to adjust the headlights manually. High beam can be adjusted separately.

I corrected my beams in front of a white wall. Were (esp high beam) way too high.

I corrected my beams in front of a white wall. Where (esp high beam) way too high.

I corrected mine, both main beam and xenon dipped beam manually. The xenon adjustment required to stop bothering other road-users was miniscule compared to the range of the auto levelling mechanism so in my mind not worth bothering with the VCDS/Learning/PartingWithMyDosh process.

hmmm interesting anyone any guides to doing it?? i know you turn "knobs" but what does what?

My brother was following me home yesterday and he confirmed my suspicions that it seems that the xenons aren't auto-levelling, hence why they're blinding people. They are also set too high, so the combination of both is just killing other road users!! Think I need to give Skoda a call and see what they say to sort it out/look at it :(

The adjustment is manual however they need to be adjusted in the correct mode so it sets the new level as its bse setting or it just adjusts itself back again, if that's near the limit of the motor then the don't self level.

To adjust the headlamps

55 - Headlamp control

04 - Basic settings

Channel 001 wait for set command

Adjust headlamps

Channel 002 to save setting

Last part is very important

I might need to just bite the bullet and get them to align it within MOT standards :(

Particuarly as the MOT is due pretty soon as is a service :S

Depending on size of service alignment could be part of it.

Second service from what i can gather in the service book its just ticked into 41k and says 3400 left but i have done an oil and filter around August (pretty anal about maintenance lol)

Taking the vRS in tomorrow night ready for the garage to have a look at is on Wednesday whilst I'm at work. So I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a Yeti courtesy car for 24 hours. Cool! lol!

There may be some useful information in this thread for you, I had a similar issue on my vRS, all sorted now though!

It is also worth noting that when we bought our Octavia Scout with xenon's back in 2009 the wife complained she was always getting flashed by other cars. Dropped into the local delaer who performed a 'factory reset' on them and they've been perfect ever since.

Thanks for the link mate, only noticed you'd posted just now and my car is currently in with Skoda! I'm hoping it all gets sorted by them without too much of a cost.

In the meantime, I've got this to play with:

Fabia.jpg

Fabia Monte Carlo :)

Nice, is it petrol or diesel? I've heard the 105bhp derv Monte is a cracking car...

Let us know how you get on with sorting the xenon's too.

What dealer did you take it to? You should have let me scan it with VCDS first!

It's the bottom of the range petrol. Very slow compared to the vRS! Although, it does sound pretty racey. Just a shame the engine doesn't match it tbh :(

Took it to AutoSales, who were surprisingly good actually. Especially as they forgot to call me before doing extra work so couldn't charge me for it ;)

To all that are interested, it's now been sorted. They plugged it in and reset it, then change my LED sidelights as the resistors had gone in them and were pulling up an error. They blamed the sidelights though, although I just think the system needed resetting. So with hindsight, I should have asked you first really James! But then again, it just seemed easier at the time to book it in and get a courtesy car. Don't worry, there's lots of things I might want VCDS for in the near future! lol!

Oh yeah and for Silver1011, here's a sound clip of what the Fabia sounded like :)

Sounds meaty for a 1.2 :giggle:
