Strange happenings with indicator

Featured Replies

My indicators started behaving erratically over the last couple of weeks, speeding up, slowing down and now regularly not working at all :( . I've seen on other threads that there is a known problem with the relay, but the weird thing is that the hazards work perfectly well and if I switch them on whilst the indicator is not working, let them run for a few seconds and then turn them off, the indicators start to behave again (all be it for a short period).

From looking at previous threads, I was under the impression that a stuffed relay would effect both systems.

Any takers?

The hazard lights relay also controls the indicators, if that helps. Is your car still under warranty? If not, why not try changing the relay yourself to see if that cures the problem.

exactly the same thing happened me, brought it to the dealer and they replaced a relay, no probs since!

This seems to be a VERY common problem. My Octavia, and two of my friends who also have Octavias that were all bought around the same time in 2002/2003 have developed this identical problem within the last 3 months.

My two friends took it to the dealer and they charged approx.

Phoned my local Skoda garage up to see if the realy was covered by my skoda used car comprehensive warrenty & was told the parts and labour would have been covered, but I'd have to pay for the diagnotic to see if that was the problem. Instead a quick google search & 10 mins removing/cleaning contacts/refitting and I have indicators again. Thanks for a great tip!

Would like to add my thanks to Makk's quality post above. My indicators started to flash erratically over the last week and virtually stopped altogether yesterday. Most disconcerting on a roundabout!!! Cleaning the

switch/contact points
in the relay unit did the trick for me. Now working fine again and have saved me another trip to the dealer. Thanks again.
