how much does it cost to fit a quaife or similar ATB diff?

I've got one in my alfa gta and it cost £600 fully fitted! (the joy of cheap oe alfa diffs!) - transforms a 250 - 300bhp fwd car no need for the weight and transmission losses of a 4x4

from what i can gather its about £700 for the diff and new seals - then fitting. Awesome gti quoted 12hrs labour?!...

what's involved in fitting? does the box have to come out?

anyone recommend anyone in the North west? that said if its can be done in a day i'm happy to travel.

box need to come out as the box needs to be stripped.!!

i would imagine you will be looking at over 1k for that withoout a doubt

and will take longer than a day

worth it though, even if you've got 4x4

I'm running ~330bhp and it hardly wheel spins now, unless it is very wet.

You'll need:

1) The Diff itself (£700)

2) ARP replacement bolts (the standard diff is riveted on and they need to be drilled out) (£90)

3) Gearbox oil (£30)

4) Bearings depending on the age / condition (I didn't need these)

Fitting was £380 at Jabbasport.

It's the best mod I have EVER done to this car.

They are great aren't they - my gta is 263bhp of the normally aspirated form - traction control off for every journey and great. You can get oversteer on the throttle and 4 wheel drift all day everyday.

Hence the need

Diff is just 'bolted' onto the box on the gta so relatively easy - DIY almost part from preloading the diff with shims.

Does the vrs quaife need preload?

The Quaife and Peloquin diffs are worm geared ATB's, so no shims.

There is a SQS plate diff, but only for the O2J/O2M gearboxes iirc

Where are you based?

I would recommend you super finish the transmission internals at the same time.

You could also look into a gripper diff which we ran in the Bonneville Octavia.

Re post with shims - I've got a quaife equivalent (alfa q2) and it needed shims to stop it moving side to side and alow some preload - so it appears not to be the case in the vw box?
