Noisy tyres

Featured Replies

Ive just aquired an 2010 octavia fitted with Dunlop sp sport 01 205/60 R15 91 V tyres.

I had a fair bit of noise at rear thought it was huge boot space. I had rear tyres moved to front as they had most tread, the noise at rear dissapeared, but Wow so much tyre noise at front now. any ideas. I thought these were low tyre noise tyres.

The one problem that comes up time and again with Octavias is the tyre noise, especially on the original fit Dunlop or Bridgestone tyres.

In extreme cases the rear tyres wear with a saw-tooth effect on the tread blocks at the outside of the tyres. My last Octavia did it (Dunlops) and the new one (2010) was starting to do the same on its Bridgestones.

Could be that your front tyres are beyond redemption but the situation will definitely be improved by getting a 4 wheel alignment done. I had this done last week and it has made a small difference that will hopefully be a big difference when I replace the tyres. You can see the results of my alignment here:

You will find many threads on here extolling the virtues of one type of tyre or another when you come to replace - I have found that Hankooks are much quieter than the oem Bridgestones or Dunlops.

Welcome!

I also had Continentals with the same problem, got some Vredesteins that were much better.

Im running Goodyear at the moment and they are very quiet.

Use the search function and search for 'sawtoothing'.

Lot's of unhappy Skoda drivers but it can be fixed

I had looked at some Hankooks when trying to get some info. ive also got same tyres albeit 195 60 15 on a corolla and no tyre noise what so ever. It just seems to be the 2 tyres with the most tread. the wheels seem perfectly balanced no wobbles vibrations other than loud tyre noise

ive had four wheel alignment all wheels rebalanced to no avail. as for saw toothing not here my tyres are worn evenly, ive 7.5mm front 4.5mm on rears. next option try and get some other wheels and new tyres to try out. if skoda wheels would of fit the toyota id of swapped to see if noise transferred to it.

You wanna get the geometry checked against skodas recommended settings.

Mine came with OEM Continentals. No funny wear just feckin loud.

Had Avons on after that, much quieter.

Maxxis MAZ1 now and quieter than the Contis but louder than the Avons.

Octy VRS isn't a quiet car. Lots of posts on noise reduction round the forum.

Agreed, had my Vrs for a few years now and there's quite a difference in noise between makes of tyres.

PZeros and Efficientgrips weren't too bad, but stay away from Uniroyal Rainsports - while the grip is definately amazing, they rumble like you wouldn't believe!!.
