Benefits in allowing RSAP for bluetooth unit?

Featured Replies

Hi

Just switched phones from a Blackberry Bold 9700 to a Galaxy SII - I initially had a few problems with the BB but worked round them, but the Galaxy was working within 2 minutes...so far so good.

My normal connection with the blackberry just read on the Maxidot as

[device name]

[service provider]

[signal strength]

just connected my Galaxy and the phone asked me if I wanted to allow RSAP, which I did, and the display changed to read

[3G]

with "PREMIUM" on the display

but everything else worked as normal.

If I deny RSAP then I get the

[device name]

[service provider]

[signal strength]

message. I'm able to make calls without any problem with RSAP allowed or denied.

So, the question is; is there any advantage to me allowing RSAP?, and if so what else can I do that I can't normally do with the feature not enabled.

Hope this makes sense, could post pics if required.

thanks in advance

With the RSAP you also get text messages up on the display but one problem is that then the text messageis on the car and not the phone so you get messages in 2 places. Also find the phone book works very well on the RSAP speed and voice dialling. also have aGalaxy s2 using RSAP

When "Premium", it cuts off the internet possibility from the phone, so I use the "hands-free (was it?)"...

I also had that galaxy II but phone`s bluetooth didn`t connect automatically when I had to stop the car and start it again. It tried, almost succeeded, but then, "no bluetooth connection". I sold that samsung.....****ed off....

When driving a taxi, I have to start and stop many times a day.

Thanks both.

I've tried both now and prefer the non rSAP connection, the messages came through to the car just fine, but there was no alert other than a 'new message' note on the maxidot which seemed a little too low-key for me.....that said I don't think there's a time when I need to read my text messages that urgently that the car reads them out to me (although it was quite fun), plus having some messages on the phone and some on the car sim could be confusing.

Other than that I can't see any benefit, so it will be non rSAP for me.

thanks again

rSAP uses the Sim cards info, and the CAR becomes the phone, using the Shark-Fin aerial on the roof.

You do get a better signal, but, it's a pain in the backside!

Al.

IMO rSAP is a much better connection as it uses the phone in the car with a higher transmitter power and the external aerial.

I also have the new Samsung Galaxy SII and it connects within seconds of getting into the car

I've always had a perfect signal and call quality. Agreed it can not use data while connected to the car's phone, I do not use data while on the move but it does stop Google maps from updating if you go off course.

Messages come through to the maxidot display (though could do with a bong or bell to alert you) and you can quite easily copy them to the phone if you need to.

My galaxy also connected when starting the car again, even that "BT-AUDIO"-text appeared on the bolero screen, but then it always failed.

You get much better reception with RSAP, as you are using the car as the phone which in turn uses an aerial on the roof of the car to get the best reception possible. For example, my company Nokia phone struggles to get reception on its own aerial, but connected via RSAP it gets a better signal and that means no lost calls.

Call quality should also be better because in non RSAP mode your car becomes a glorified handsfree headset with the same low bitrate bluetooth connection you get to one of those. In RSAP mode you get almost hifi quality audio since its all routed directly to the columbus with no wireless connections involved.

In RSAP mode your phone battery will last a lot longer, as its main radio is disabled and the Bluetooth is the only thing active.
